No reason to bring any players yet , we have nearly a full squad at present & I am sure the new man in charge will want to be involved in the few deals that are required . This time last year we needed 15 players and urgency was needed , this close season the priority is getting the manager sorted
Completely agree. This year it should be about a few quality signings over the quantity needed. Hopefully whoever we get in charge we’ll back him with a couple of players he wants alongside any ‘identified’ targets.
have to agree with that fella. I think we have a good deal of players who are more than capable of L1. Also some coming up from the developments too. I reckon maybe 4 or 5 new signings is more than enough.... but as you say a manager to make it all work is key.
We need to get a manager not head coach in first. Then they need to get rid of the deadwood as our squad is already too big.
Not so easy to get rid of players who under contract plus some of these players who you class as dead wood might perform differently under a new coach , I certainly think the new coach/manager will want to look at all players before making decisions about his squad
Do you think the new manager or coach should choose which keeper we go for then ? being as we still best part of three months away from next season
I'm led to beleve the choosing of players is not done at Barnsley by the H.C. / Manager and that's why Heckingbottom left ???.
From what I’ve pieced together from interviews, it sounds like the HC indicates areas which he would like to strengthen, the club finds him a list of targets, and then he chooses who he wants from that list.
I think this has been done to death , but Hecky always maintained that he was involved in the transfers & I choose to believe that or otherwise why would he say it ? , but I ask you , do you think a new manager/coach should be involved or not ?
Yeah that's as i understand it. Suppose it's similar at all clubs in terms of budget restrictions dictating who you can bring in. The added level to ours was the insistence on the 're sale potential so all our players ended up being young and from lower leagues. As @Red CB says it been done to death. The key change for me needs to be more quality less quantity. This should be even more achievable at league one level.
I only enquired because you originally said we should sign a goalkeeper with or without a manager , not like a dog with a bone, just curious to your reasons , it was you made the statement , not being critical
agreed we should only be signing key position quality proven players we are going to be starting most games not more project players with 'potential' we have those piling up everywhere
