Yiadom is a defender who can't defend. Okay going forward but he has no defensive positional sense. He is a ball watcher which is why he has to make so many recovery runs and last ditch tackles. If you watch him he rarely looks around to check where his opponent is or his own team mates. A good defender doesn't need to make desperate tackles all the time, he reads the game well and only has to make interceptions. Barasi was a fine example of a defender who read the game well and didn't need to make desperate tackles. The Great Bobby Moore was another.

You're comparing two world class centre halves from days gone by, whose main job was defending, with a modern attacking wing back, for whom defensive responsibility is just one aspect of his game.

Yeh but Yiadom can't defend. Stop the opposition scoring and you only need 1 goal to win. Ray Wilson and George Cohen were what was called at the time Over Lapping full backs in 1966. Wing back is just a modern name for it. They could both defend.

Yiadom can defend, but possibly not to the level of the two World Cup winners that you mention. Hardly a disgrace. Also the pace of the game has changed immeasurably since then, so again I don't think it's a particularly useful comparison. Brilliant that Bobby Moore was, if he played today he would appear to get pulled out of position a lot more than he did in the 60's and 70's as the movement off the ball of attacking players is in a completely different league these days. Not that I think he wouldn't cope - he would definitely have been able to adapt. I'm just not sure that he'd appear quite as positionally brilliant as he did then.
