I’d have him back instead of Davies

I’d have him back to play never mind coach. He’s currently a free agent apparently.

If he is actually qualified I would say yes in a heartbeat, but if not I would still be looking to hire a new goalie coach. I’ve nothing against the current goalie coach John Vaughan but I think it’s time for a change. When you consider last season we had two goalies consistently performing badly it wouldn’t seem a bad idea to get someone new in that could implement new ideas etc.

He’s just turned 40. Not sure we need another Mike Pollitt situation

Age isn't the issue - fitness, agility, decision making and performances are!

I agree but we don’t know what kind of shape he is in now. I loved having him as our number one but it’s been too long for a repeat I think

Probably got his number somewhere. I'll ask him. Me, my mate and Hicksy once took his new Porsche GT3 to Derby away for him (none of his team mates knew he had one). He then drove to Nurburing straight after and spent sunday racing it there before coming back for training on Tuesday (they had a day off or something). Proper mental petrol head and had a racing car licence in Germany. Nice guy though.

Guy was an absolute genius between the sticks until he got that knee injury, he seemed to lose all confidence. Best goalkeeper I have seen play for the reds apart from Sir Dave.

Not unless he is a qualified coach. Being the best coach in the World is no good if you haven't got the quality of player to coach. As they say " You can't polish the mucky brown stuff". There are no secrets in football coaching and Goalkeeping training is pretty standard stuff. Who's to say Vaughn isn't an excellent coach? He hasn't had much quality to work with.

From what I hear, Vaughan is highly regarded by all at Oakwell, and we’re lucky to have him.

You don't have to be a big name to be a good coach. On FA Coaching days I mixed with ex pros who didn't know as much about Coaching as us plebs in Sunday League. A mate of mine was a PT coach at a Premiership Club Academy and one well know pro borrowed his UEFA B coaching notes and actually copied and used his written assessments passing them off as his own work.

Yeah, exactly. Vaughan to me is not a big-name coach and just gets on with it. Like I said, I believe the staff and players have really taken to him - which is half the battle sometimes.
