I note with interest this morning that one of our rivals Bradford City have made their third signing of the close season , I say interestingly as Bradford do not have a manager or head coach & have been without one since Simon Grayson departed at the end of last season . Let me say straight away that I am not complaining about our lack of signings as I am sure they will arrive in due course but my point is that we have debated the merits of our transfer policy in great detail & there has been much criticism of the transfer committee system , I fear if we had gone down the same route as Bradford a lot of our fans would have been in melt down , or would they ? , Thoughts please
Melt down is the preferred state of being for some. As most have pointed out though I would imagine Stendel, along with improving his english, is feverishly watching videos, liaising with Bobby Hassell and co and agreeing the profile of the positions he's looking to recruit. I'd hope when he actually starts work we're well advanced in terms of recruitment. One thing I will say is...I'd be disappointed if a lack of movement on the transfer front is explained by having to sell before we can buy. Given the relatively small fees any of our squad will fetch I'd expect our owners to be able to cover any incomings until Bradshaw etc leave.
I agree with most of what you say , although I am not so sure that Tom Bradshaw will leave as I think our new HC will identify what a valuable player Bradshaw could be within the style of play he wants us to play . I think players that will be on their way are more likely to be the less athletic members of our squad who really do not fancy or are not really up to the pressing game , it is quite conceivable that players falling into the latter category will be giving their agents some earache about a move away already & the the thinning of the squad will be a natural evolution
“Given the relatively small fees any of our squad will fetch I'd expect our owners to be able to cover any incomings until Bradshaw etc leave.” Why do people continue to confuse the owners’ personal wealth with the finances of the club!?
I wasn't suggesting the input of untold millions. I was simply suggesting that we have the financial muscle to afford to buy a player for £300, 000 in July BEFORE selling Bradshaw, for instance, for a million in August.
Yep, I'd like to keep Bradshaw though I'd guess he'd like to stay in the Championship if he gets an offer. The one thing I'm uncertain about is what type of striker Stendel will want if his preferred option is to play one up front.
This is an interesting point when it comes to one of our players in particular, mowatt. I’ll give him him my backing if he’s chosen to stay but with my experience of watching him, he looks 2 yards slower than everyone else. He did however come back for last years pre season with the best fitness scores throughout the squad. I’d like to see a ruthless streak from the new manager but only based on what he’s actually seen so I’m in no real hurry to see a 5/6 player turnover immediately.
I thought Stendel favoured one up front, a role Tom doesn't really fit. I think with one year on his contract left we may take the cash.
Agree with that, I think Bradshaw would thrive in a team playing the style wanted. The key thing is if they keep him.
Bradford fell away after being well placed in league one, so they will know where they need to strengthen. We're a bit different because we are probably hoping that the majority of our squad is good enough to compete in league one. I don't think we'll do a lot of business before the season starts. January will be busier.
