In this weeks Chronicle - Gauthier Ganaye seems to be preparing the fans ready for an influx of foreign players.

    THERE’S NO NEED!!!

I can assure Mr Ganaye that the vast majority of Barnsley fans are not bothered about where the players come from.
We had a German goalkeeper here a few years ago and he was adored by the fans.
Heinz Muller was one of the best goalkeepers I’ve ever seen playing for Barnsley.

All what Barnsley fans want is:
attractive football - PLUS - a winning side.
That’s both - one without the other would not be accepted.
The fans are not bothered where those players come from to achieve this.

I’d say most reds fans would like to see our academy being used .
A few foreign players would be ok with a mixture of British and academy players but don’t fill the team with journey men

    Journey men ???
I think these can come from any country.
And hopefully the years of hiring and firing a full squad every season are over.

Never said they couldn’t come from any country indeed they could .
But you stated the CEO warns club should prepare for an influx of foreign players which I would disagree with if it’s to detriment of our academy and finding young hungry British based players . A mixture would be ok

Not sure I would want to watch a team full of foreign players, a mixture like tha says Marl would be alreight. We fetched young Brits in that were no better than some of our own, hope it aint gunna be foreign for the sake of it.

I think we're going to see a rather strange mix of players this season, which isn't necessarily concerning, but will be a challenge to mould and gel into a cohesive unit. If you take the better players that we have and those likely to be able to adapt to a fast paced, counter-press way of playing, plus a few academy players, to then add in possibly 3 or 4 lads Germany or wherever (as suggested in the Chronicle), we may end up with either a very effective blend of talent, or a worrying mix of players with varying degrees of ability and tactical nous. I'm reasonably upbeat about Stendel's appointment and I can see a plan being put in place that hopefully will be effective not just in League One but also in the next league should we gain promotion. I do, however, feel that experience and know-how appears to get you out of League One. It may be a tough division in some ways, but it's not rocket science. A lot of the teams are very ordinary and capable of beating each other. I worry we may be over-complicating things by identifying a certain way of playing and discarding/adding players to fit into that system. Who knows? It might all work out and we'll be fine this season. I usually get a feel for how we may do in a season, or at least what we can expect. But this time I literally have no idea how we'll line up or fair next season. It'll be a very interesting Summer once Stendel takes over properly.

As much as in hindsight Davey went mad in the end I did enjoy watching Anderson De Silva and Hugo Colace, although that Mostto was an utter waste of space. Colace won fans player of the season, so I think most Barnsley fans really don’t care where you’re from if you are any good. But if you’re dog turd like Mostto then rightly we would question the point in it.

Hes right when he says that we're not stupid enough to dismiss a player just because hes foreign etc. But there has to be more effort made here with our own players, and Im talking about our expensive academy here to begin with.

No - what you are saying there is that a player was criticised for playing poorly - that’s totally different from criticising a player JUST because he isn’t British.
And reading what Ganaye has to say in the Chronicle this week I think he has concerns that this may happen.

Can be harder for overseas players to settle, think it's another gamble the board are taking instead of players that know the league's and already live in the surrounding area

About 70 % of the players in the top flight are from overseas & the majority appear to settle quite well over here therefore I would suggest it is only a gamble if the players are not yet up to the required standard of the league but if they are then hopefully they will be fine , a good player is a good player wherever he plies his trade.

GG is saying that to suit the style of play that Stendel wants to adopt viz: counter attacking, pressing,
it's a possibility that he could well bring some of his former players from Hannover to Oakwell,
but the nationality of most of the signings was as yet unknown.
In another piece, he's not ruled out a return for Adam Hammill at some point in the future, possibly
    as a Youth team coach.
