Another player we've supposedly made a profit on with just 1 year remaining on his contract. Do we think Gauthier Ganaye will say exactly the same thing when Bradshaw, Mowatt and Pinillos are out the door?!
It's becoming a bit of a repetitive mantra now isn't it from GG. ' we (insert player's name) made a profit and retain an interest in his future'
Its better than letting them go for nowt.He wanted to go home, the manager didn't see him in his plans it makes sense to let him go.
My biggest concern is that a number of players that we have acquired through the "spread sheet" approach to signing players that seem to be leaving after a handful of games for the club. Knassmullner, Pearson and now Mallan. Obviously they are deemed to be good enough otherwise the spread sheet wouldn't have identified them in the first place. I know there's been an imbalance in the squad but it does make you question why we keep insisting on this approach. Maybe the spread sheet needs an update!
As a defender of the spreadsheet even I have to question why the hell we signed so many attacking mids.
Well done to the owners again. More profit for players that would probably be sent out on loan if they'd stayed.
I'm all for making a profit providing that the profit is used to identify and sign a higher calibre of player. Will that happen though, time will tell.
Profit is a bit of a red herring though. Profit in terms of the purchase and sale price but how much money have we spunked on wages, signing on fees and agents for these players? If we have made 200k on the transfer fee I can guarantee we’ll have done that on his wages alone, plus the extra fees. Not complaining, I just think profit can be used a little bit disengenuously at times. I saw it the other day with Ronaldo, that if he goes to Juve then Real will have made money on him. Have they ****, he’s been on £15m a year for the last 6 seasons.
All these outgoings but no sign of anyone coming which is starting to get a bit worrying. Bringing players in late in the window means they don't get a pre season with us & that never helps. Can't help thinking it'll be mainly loans coming in.
Oh, how I long for the days when our club made big losses on players (Hristov, Sheron, Hume, Dyer, Barnard, Tinkler, de Silva, Macken, etc.), rather than profits on the transfer fees for squad players(!) As Tennyson, Shelley, Keats, Wilde would probably have said, FFS!
It's entirely disingenuous. If, on top of the squad of players we actually play, we also sign players who don't play, who just collect a wage, who we sell on for a little more than we bought them for, but for far less than their transfer, signing on fee, agent's fee and wages, we'll be out of business in a couple of years.
Those players contributed. We bought their services as footballers and they repaid that with their performances. You could argue whether or not we got value for money, but we bought them to play football and they did.
