At least we won't get fans insisting on calling him Stevie anymore, which is a load of nonsense really. It makes him sound like a school kid.
I agree with your overarching point but using Ronaldo as an example is probably not the best. If you think how much impact he’s had on the pitch for them, that equates to prize money for the trophies they’ve won (I believe I read that Real got £70 million for winning the champions league last season and he was a major part of that and the previous successes) and then there’s also shirt sales. I would hazard a guess that Madrid made more money off his shirt sales than what they paid for him in his transfer fee. Of course, regarding our players at this level I agree with you, when you add up all the costs of the 3 players we’ve sold for “profit” it’s probably not profit at all. Unless of course they go on to a big money move next then maybe.
Really disappointed with this. We will need goals from midfield and I wonder how much this was Daniel's decision, or Gauthier's. I won't enjoy hearing the phrase 'and the club made a profit on the deal' too often, if it means we continue to sell potential and bring in either no one at all, or players not as good as the ones on the way out. Where are the 'League One targets' coming in? Some good players being moved now, such as Grant from Nottingham Forest and the like. Where are we in the queue of purchasers and which players? We don't want another manager to become quickly disillusioned.
I get that mate, I was going to write it on my initial post but wanted to keep it succinct. It’s hard to quantify How much value Ronaldo has had in terms of ROI but they haven’t made profit in his transfer. In terms of The 3 players we’ve let go though there’s no added value at all and in all 3 we’ve lost money, that I don’t doubt at all.
Its quite possible though Terry the transfer fee accrued will include money we've spent on wages etc.
It is but if so it shows that making money in football is ******* easy. Our current policy seems to be sign a player, see him fail completely yet watch his value grow significantly and sell him for a profit. I'm not saying GG is lying but I am utterly baffled as to how that happens not once but twice in a matter of weeks when all I ever hear is that it's impossible to make money in football.
Thats great for I suppose the spreadsheet has done exactly what it was meant to in regards of buying cheap selling for a profit...... It might look good on paper but its certainly not entertaining the paying customer and its certainly not moving the club forward at this moment in time.
I bought a second hand car last year for £2,000. This week I sold it for £2,001. Wow, I thought, aren’t I clever for making a profit! But then I remembered all the tax, MOT, insurance and year of petrol I’d had to pay for...
Young Stevie goes from being a fringe player at Barnsley to being in the Hibs squad to face NSI Runavic in a home Europa League tie tonight. If he gets on the park, hope the kid gives a good account of himself.
