Long winded post ahead, would love to hear people's thoughts:

    England:

Wow, what a journey. So proud of this team and how far we came. Regardless of what some of you are saying we didn't have any "easy" games at all. Previous England teams wouldn't have grabbed a winner against Tunisia, probably scraped through Panama, and lost to Colombia on penalties. We also took care of a good Sweden team fairly easily and went neck to neck with a brilliant Croatia team. Southgate is the perfect man for the job, he has really grown on me. We have plenty of young players coming through and hopefully we can see even more youngsters break through (Sancho, Sessegnon, Foden, Cook just to name a few). Hopefully we can really build on this but I think we can and I think we will.

    Barnsley:

Similarly to England, we have a lot of young players that are coming through. Instead of signing loads of new players, I would rather let this group grow and play with some freedom in League 1. Hopefully this new coach can do what Southgate has done and give the lads some belief and freedom to play. I want to see Ben Williams, Motley-Henry, and Adeboyejo brought into the team. I'm not even that bothered if Bradshaw is sold, we have plenty to deal with League 1.

I will end this post with a couple questions:

    1. England- who do you want and think will be brought into the team going forward?

    2. Barnsley- are you content with the current squad as it stands?

Easy games in sense of they were winnable if we applied and worked hard we’d more than likely win as opposed to other games where this could be applied but not guaranteed because of quality of opposition if that makes sense.
Some good young players coming through for England Sessegnon , loftus-Cheek etc.
I’m satisfied with squad at well if management are tbh although if any current first team players goes we replace ASAP .
If we short o think we have enough to see us to January then reassess

I am told Trevor Chalobah will be the best English defender for a long long time

    1. I don’t particularly want anyone forced into the squad. If Sessegnon, Sancho etc are good enough they’ll get there anyway. Southgate believes in youth & isn’t afraid to make big decisions (Rooney, Hart, Wilshere). I don’t want to see youth thrown in for the sake of it, we’ve done that lots of times & there’s been a lot more Walcott’s than Rooney & Owen’s. Try & keep a regular squad like the successful Spanish & German sides & if someone’s performing very well & not just 4 or 5 decent games then bring them in. Too many caps have been handed out for the sake of it because of players pulling out of friendlies all the time. Hopefully the team spirit means it’ll be tougher to get a game for England as everyone will want to play.

Sessegnon should have a good chance of getting in before long with us playing a 5-3-2, he seems perfectly suited to it. Sancho will probably have to wait as we aren’t playing with wingers. Foden needs to play games first but there’s plenty in front of him anyway, Alli, Sterling, Lingard, Ox, Lallana off the top of my head. Think we all agree we need central midfielders. Henderson’s done well & has at least 1 more World Cup in him but we need more competition. Dier’s fine as a squad player. Would love to see Wilshere & Barkley fulfil their potential but not convinced. Delph & Drinkwater are ok but you’d prefer to have better players in there. I’ve not seen enough of Cook to judge but hopefully he’s up to it.

    2. Barnsley - Fairly happy with the squad but I’d like to see us sign 2 proper central midfielders who can defend & a left winger. Then it probably depends on how the manager sees Thiam & whether he wants to play 1 or 2 up top. If 1 then we’re fine for strikers, if 2 then I’d like us to sign another.

I’m also concerned about how many injury prone players we have. Isgrove, Hedges, Pinnock, Jackson & Fryers all missed too many games last season which is a massive concern when we’re having to trim the squad anyway due to relegation.

I'm not convinced about Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard. Lingard may come good eventually but surely we have better options than Young.

I don’t think young will feature to much more to be honest with rose, Bertrand back and possibly sessegnon to come through

Don't want to scapegoat anyone but Ashley Young was dreadful and yards off the pace particularly in the Croatia game. All the focus from the 'scalphunters' seemed to be on Sterling but IMO he actually terrified the life out of the Colombian and Criatian defenders. If he can be a bit more composed re the final ball he will probably get the critics off his back. Thought he did well in the last two games.
