    Morning folks,

So I'd planned to do the neighbourly (sort of...) thing and mention the fact that, in their wisdom, Bradford Council have decided to close part of the two major routes into Bradford from the motorway at the weekend. I can see this has already been mentioned on another thread, but in case it was missed, here is the info:

    http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co....o-bradford-to-close-next-weekend/?ref=mr&lp=5

Give yourselves another half an hour if you're making the journey at the weekend. Getting in and out of Bradford isn't great at the best of times, and this will cause some extra hassle.

And while I'm here, I figured why not give you some info on parking, pubs, etc

    Parking:

Best option would be to park in Broadway Shopping Centre. About 20 minute walk from the ground. Can park all day for £1.50 n'all.

A little bit closer to the ground there is some parking next to Grammar School Street, if you whack that into Google Maps you'll see the car park. Can't remember the cost, less than a fiver if I remember rightly. It's not huge though, so will probably be full by about 1:45pm-2pm ish.

For those who aren't interested in sampling the delights of Bradford city centre, or don't fancy the walk, there is some parking just off Midland Road, about 100 yards away from the ground (at the "away end" of the ground too). On Google maps its a narrow grassed area opposite Cornwall Road. Costs about £4 for the match but, again, expect it to be full by about 1:30pm-1:45pm. Also, with this parking, you can only get to it by entering Midland Road from the Hamm Strasse end, not the Queens Road end. They will close off part of the road before you get to the car park if you drive on Midland Rd from Queens Rd. If you get stuck in this you'll end up fighting through narrow roads and match day traffic and people walking in the road. And it'll take you 15 minutes to do a lap of the ground to get to the other side of the road closure. If you're coming in from the motorway and through the City Centre, you'll be at the right end of Midland Rd, so shouldn't be an issue.

Street parking near the ground will be gone by about 1pm probably. And don't chance parking in a permit only zone, of which plenty near the ground - you'll almost certainly get a ticket.

I've seen Forster Square Retail Park mentioned for parking. Plenty of free parking, about half an hour walk to the ground, but you're limited to 3 hours. Cutting it fine if you want a couple of beers before the game.

I'd be inclined to avoid parking off any of the sides streets off Manningham Lane, the main road running at the opposite side of the ground to Midland Rd. Heard more stories of car crime than I'd care to remember (including mine, twice over the years) so I'd just avoid it. Plenty of other options if you're ok with a bit of a walk and give yourself time.

    Pubs:

There's a decent size Wetherspoons in Centenary Square, in front of City Hall. It's just 5 minute walk from the Broadway car park. 20 minute walk from the ground.

Personally though, I'd head for North Parade. Plenty of choice. Good Ale pubs (The Sparrow, The Peacock, The Record Cafe, The City Gent - all within 5 minutes of each other) Good friendly atmosphere, perfectly safe if you're bringing kiddies with you, etc (that's where I'll be and I take my 10 year old son). And if you park in Broadway it's on your way to the ground as well.

    Food:

The usual McDonalds and Subway at Forster Square Retail Park. A Nandos next to the Wetherspoons. Bit of a food court in Broadway Shopping Centre. A Five Guys in town if that's your thing. If you do drink at any of the places mentioned above, if you walk to the ground on Manningham Lane, rather than Midland Road you'll pass Food 2 Go - top notch Indian stuff!

    Hope someone finds that useful.

Should be a belter on Saturday, Yorkshire Derby, two teams coming off a win, early season [misplaced?!] optimism, good away following - should be lively!

    Over and out.

    Nice bit of info that.
I remember going 'away' to Bradford in 1985-86, at the old Leeds Road ground in Huddersfield. Ive never been to your Valley Parade ground.

Last time in Lg One we won there twice, in the JPT & in the League. And we've won there in the Lg Cup as well. :)

I'd second the North Parade recommendation too, some lovely pubs and bars there. I tend to go on an evening with work mates for cocktails and the live music though - Al's Dime Bar is fab but isn't open until later.

That's brilliant cheers pal - so looking at map - coming down M606 and then picking up A641 into the centre should be fine (if busy)

Also, I'd personally risk some of the side streets in Manningham - don't blame me if you do though! I've parked there plenty of times when on courses from school but that's never been on a match day obviously.

Thought I would add to my fellow Bantams recommendation for where to drink.

If you are arriving by train and come into Bradford via the Interchange then I would suggest making the short walk from the station to City Park – easily found as it fronts on to City Hall. Just look for the tall clock tower in front of you as you leave the station. For cheap and cheerful there is the Turls Green (Westherspoons). However, I would recommend taking in Sunbridge Wells – a subterranean complex of bars (7 in total I think) which is located behind the Turls Green (just go through the passage between Turls Green and Starbuks and you will see it straight ahead). These bars are about 20 minutes’ walk from the ground though, so keep that in mind.

    Link to Sunbridge Wells: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...13c94a73081e1f6!8m2!3d53.7936307!4d-1.7553442

If you are short on time then you will need to be making your way towards Valley Parade, therefore I would echo the recommendation of North Parade. A street full of independent bars and only a 10 minutes’ walk from the ground. Great beers and vibrant atmosphere on match days.

Also worthy of note is City Vaults, opposite Waterstones and close to the Broadway Shopping Centre. This is about 15 minutes’ walk from the ground.

If you arrive at Forster Square station then City Vaults and North Parade are your best bets. This is the nearest station to the ground as well.

Sunbridge Wells really is something else! It’s so strange as it’s a row of bars in underground tunnels and each place is completely different to the one next door in terms of styling and the drinks they serve. I did find it a bit claustrophobic at times as I’ve only been on an evening when it is quite dark and some of the places are VERY small and the twisty stairs are difficult to navigate in heels. I personally prefer North Parade and think it would be better for a Saturday afternoon pre match but Sunbridge Wells is definitely worth a look at least once. It’s worth noting that it’s not all wheelchair friendly as it’s over 4 floors and some of the entrances involve stairs with no lifts. The main entrance does lead to some accessible bars though.
