I like him, he just frustrates the tits off me , he's got plenty of natural talent and should be playing in the Championship . Sadly there's just something missing .

    He's been slated for:
    - being unfit
    - not performing defensive duties
    - running down blind alleys
    - having a dodgy hairstyle and a chavvy wife

He's always seemed to me to have a talent that we can make use of.

What's missing is the hairbob. And consistency. There's nothing that pisses everyone off more than knowing someone can do it, but doesn't do it.

This season determines what he will earn for the next couple of years so I think he will be looking to do well, which can only benefit us.

He'll be fine this season wrapped in his League 1 comfort blanket .

That reads a bit condescending to me.

But if you want to slag one of our players off, you can applaud yourself.

Is it not nicer to simply remark upon the excellence of his performance today?

I think the first three have been fair criticism (the 4th certainly not, although if the hairstyle stuff is said with fondness then there's no harm).

He's now got to show us and the manager he can do what he did today for 70 minutes, not just 20. And improve his shooting.

We're not on about Thiam are we? If your honestly telling me that Moncur has put in the required effort and has been at the required standard of fitness over the past 18 months then you need to give your head a wobble. He's got the ability to be a quality No10 he just needs to show it consistently

To show us what he can do at this level for 70mins he will need the coach to give him a run of starts. He may get one in this weeks cup game. But let’s be honest, we have had a great start and unlike past few managers / seasons we look like we have a settled squad, game plan and clear focus from the off. Our subs for once have been about continuing to press and not defend a dodgy lead when the opponents are getting on top. Mowatt, Thiam, and a few more have looked tired and slip out of the game at 60min plus. The subs help manage this and Stendel knows the capabilities and energy levels of all the players to manage the game day squad to maximise our approach. At that point in the game it seems Moncur and Adeboyejo part was just as important as anyone’s irrespective of mins on the field and they delivered.

I'm a big fan but we have never played a system that suits him and we will still have a problem accommodating him. In a free role behind a striker he will score and create goals but when asked to play a more disciplined role, he loses too much from his game....he still does ok but we lose his real asset. He came on yesterday at a time when we were struggling a little and Stendel decided (wisely) to occupy their two full backs by playing Bradshaw and Adaboyejo wide. It gave Moncur a free role in the centre of the pitch and he turned the game back in our favour. We can't play that system though and the 2 central midfielders have given us that protection we lacked last season. So a change in formation would be needed to accommodate him but we are winning games. Shame as he is our most talented footballer.

He can be quality in short cameo’s but unless somethings changed over the summer he’s only got 60 minutes in him

He's a very good attacking midfielder or second striker. That's what he was at Colchester and that's what he is now. We tried to convert him into a centre midfielder, partly due to the necessity of having extra cover there in the Championship and partly because we wanted two strikers up top. Moncur excels as a second striker, free to roam and create. We could never allow him the freedom to do that whilst competing in the league above, where everyone had to work as part of the collective. In this league, he can have the freedom to do what he's best at and we saw that yesterday. He'll have a top season I think.

Yesterdays performance was as impressive a cameo as I can remember seeing from a Barnsley player. He was electric, creative and played at a great intensity.

I reckon he'll get his chance to start and show what he can do on Tuesday against Blackpool. Winkler said they were likely to make some changes to give others a chance and to rest some players. Victor as well maybe?

That's what I'd do. I wouldn't change the central midfield pairing as I think they're key to everything we're doing right, but I may also give Jackson and Isgrove a run out. Jackson would be a straight swap, Isgrove doesn't provide the same power as Potts but his crossing is much more consistent.

The biggest loss in resting Bradshaw and Moore is that Moncur and Victor won't close the opposition down as well, but they'll provide more skill when on the ball.

I would ask a genuine question - is he so good that you would change our system to suit him or should he find a way to fit in?

For me he plays when Moore isn't available, Moore Bradshaw combo is our strongest but without Moore we need to change our style as no one else can bring what Moore does and in this league that's what will win us most games. Moncur though with Victor and Tom either side is also an exciting front line and will win us games.

Just watched the game on ifollow. Bradford couldn't get near Moncur when he came on. I suspect they'll not be the only team to have that problem this season. Whether he starts or not he should be one hell of a weapon to have in our armoury this year.

He made some good appearances off the bench last season, but similarly to Hedges, seemed more suited to coming on as sub than starting.

Different level now though, but if he did start games, who would he replace in a functional, winning midfield?
