Leicester bound in 12 months time? https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/12/george-hirst-sheffield-wednesday-leuven-leicester
Most amazing part is Man United wanted £6m for Zeki Fryers from Tottenham in 2012. That lads career has seriously stalled by not getting enough football at the crucial time. Will wait and see what Stendel and co can do with him as still feel our only weak link at the moment is on the left. Defensively I don’t think Pinillos and Thiam are good enough longer term, and attacking wise I don’t think Pinillos is dynamic enough to get up and down for 90. From half time yesterday the young lad Seedorf had him on toast every time he got the ball, culminating in Pinillos getting booked as he just couldn’t cope. Looked to be carrying a knock though.
A bit more to this story I think . https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/foot...ster-made-2million-bid-sheffield-11080973.amp Wednesday got a 2 million offer for him , refused to sell , then refused to play him ( signing 8 million rated Jordan Rhodes instead) . If they d have played him maybe he would have banged 20 goals in and they d be looking at a 10 million plus windfall from a bigger fish than leicester . One of the reasons why the wendies are in so much trouble.
I still think that the loophole is, in effect, an exploitation of smaller clubs by bigger ones and I guess that clubs from Burnley in the Premiership to Cheltenham Town in League Two will feel the cold chill of being cheated out of fair revenue, especially when you consider the wealth of bigger clubs. There is no doubt that Wednesday have mis-handled the situation, but I still think that bigger clubs are stealing young talent from those who do so much to bring them on. As the article states, the loophole does need to be closed.
Not quite the same. They made an offer. We accepted it. As much as I dislike Wednesday this is something that could come round to bite us, or any other club. A simple loophole that the FA could close. The compensation is due to the club who developed him, paid by the next English club to sign him. Regardless of where he goes in between.
I agree that the loophole does need looking at , but in this case it is complete mismanagement on Wednesdays part . They clearly were not going to play the lad ,or sell him to let him get on with his career . I'd put this whole episode up there with releasing Jamie vardy to Stockbridge Steelers .
Yes I know they bid and we accepted etc but top and bottom was they knew we were skint and they took advantage of it . And that’s what Leicester ate doing . Don’t get me wrong I’m not condoning it by any means
I am convinced that they bought Winnal to derail our season as we were getting very close to them & the play offs 7 it worked . I have no sympathy for Wednesday at all , dislike them with a passion .
A measly £200,000. He was young and inexperienced but, like John Stones, had that "look" about him and you could see that he was going to become an England international not too far down the line. He became a very good player; hampered by injuries though.
They deserve all they get. They had a really good talented young player & instead of giving him a chance they went out & bought Rhodes & Winnall on top of Fletcher, Hooper, Nuhiu, Forestieri & Jauo. Seems ridiculous that they’re getting upset over missing out on a bigger fee for him when they’re happy to spend over £150k a week on strikers
Agree with this. I’m really not going to start feeling sorry for a club over losing a few million quid that has tried (and failed) to buy its way out of the championship and as another poster put, tried to derail us (and succeeded). They didn’t play Hirst and are now suffering for it I just which Nice signed him first
