In about 7-8 years since they all left Oakwell most of them dropped into world football wilderness. Anderson de Silva has played for 5 clubs since and never reached 20 apps for any. Now plays for a Uruguayan club. Weird how players just fade out.

Totally. Souza was decent at times - didn’t he go to Donny for a bit?

Same with Miguel Mostto - although he did rack up some appearances after us.

Strange really - but then we don’t know other details. For example Colace runs a couple of coffee shop drive-ins now. He still plays football, but at a lower level and probably just for the love and a bit of extra cash. I.e it’s not his main income.

I think owns rather than runs is probably a better term for it. He was visibly upset when he was here on trial that the fans thought he ran a coffee shop.

Dominic Werling dropped right through the leagues really quickly. I still think Mostto was a better player than we allowed him to show (but then I thought Krizan was quality so who am I to judge).

I think I know why they didn't go on to have decent careers.

I thought we picked up some quality players in that era.
It was interesting to watch what was happening back then.
And it’s from experience from that era that I thought Stendel had been brought in - that is to find player from abroad.
    I’ve been wrong so far.
    But there’s time yet.

Yes, I meant owned. I know he doesn’t physically work there as such.

Werling went to Hudds for a bit didn’t he.

I think a lot of our players back then, perhaps weren’t afforded the time to settle in a new Town/Country. And maybe the club were also partly to blame for also not helping better with the transition.

I agree with you about Krizan too - decent player and was Captain of Slovenia. Just not afforded the time to settle and when he got his chance, he broke his ankle badly. Tinkler faired better (who was also South African Captain)- but then he spoke English. His Sciatica issues were the main issue.

Big Stan was probably the main success back then under Davies. Da Silva. Souza and Colace were all decent and on their day were good enough for top end of Champ.

I rated Anderson. Always thought we would have won that FA Cup semifinal if he’d been fit to play. Was Robins one big mistake when he was at Oakwell. The guy needed an arm around his shoulder when his mother died and Robins just showed him the door instead

Didn’t realise we’d signed Bahre and Dougall from English clubs.

Hugo Colace now plays for Serie C side Siderno in Italy.

Spoke to him via twitter a few days ago and he said he just loves playing football.

Anderson will always be one of those if only players for me though. I think he had a strange attitude and could be lazy and frustrated with himself a lot. He definitely had that Samba flair and could make the ball talk on his day. But that injury and bad management from Davey and Robins just held him back :(

Diego Leon looks to have had a cracking time of things for the last few years judging by Instagram, playing in Cyprus, living in Larnaca.

Souza spent a bit of time playing in Crete for Heraklion, another decent place to be spending your career. In recent years he’s been playing in Belgium.

Halfredsson’s the one who’s gone on to have a really good career both for club & country. Could never understand why many of our fans didn’t seem to rate him.

Dênis Souza. 14 clubs in 14 years. Why oh why did fans like him. Gave more goals away faffing abart than any other player I’ve ever seen in a red shirt. Think all the other teams sussed him out early doors given the number of games he played for em.

I thought he was excellent. Not surprised he has had a decent career in Italy & in a great international side.
He was only on loan to us, wasn't he?

Think he was one of those enigmatic players, who could boss things sometimes, though other times he just got lazy. Wouldve bossed League One

We've had lots of players that have been stand out performers for us but haven't done great elsewhere. I think we've had some players at their peak.

Howard, JCR, Mcindoe and Hammill were all stand out players for us but not elsewhere and they are only a few of many.

The money's greener than the grass.

It's probably easier to name the players that really went on to better things, because they are few and far between.

    Great loan signing.

Think he probably needed a full season to get going properly and adapt. Overall, I reckon he was probably too dear to sign on a perm. It might have been the player’s agent’s trick to put him in the shop window over here - hoping another team might come in for him.

On that one fitzy. What about the ones we let go, dropped down the league's and went on to far better things. David Speedie, springs to mind. How the bloody hell did he manage to outjump 6 footers. (Fairly by the way but refs always pulled him up thinking not possible)

I’d think there aren’t many more though who have gone into better things? some have done ok like Jonny Parkin but there’s far more players that leave us they go elsewhere and either find it’s not as green as they thought or aren’t as well liked.

Yeah good player Speedie. I once patted him on the back during a pitch invasion and nearly broke my hand lol.
