Forgive my pessimism but there’s absolutely no chance that the club will want to be associated with anything of this nature. Not only does it infringe on the club’s IP but it also politicises the club. It’ll be a definitive no.

I'll have one please. I'm low paid, and definitely working class.

Does your version of fascism the same as the UAF's version? If so please place this straight in the bin.

This has probably been set up by some "momentum" type think-tank, probably by some middle-class twerp who has never been to a football match. However i find the so-called "football lads alliance" an embarrassment. I have seen on social media a couple of 'lads' i know at one of their marches in manchester: very EDL-ish. Is it representative of the overwhelming majority of football supporters?: is it hell.

And the way the current Labour Party is Run, could be, in some ways, marked as fascism. I.e you tow the party line, or you’re kicked out, regardless of what your local constituency believe and voted you in for.

You could ask this lot if they got permission..?

I do think you need to think of the slogans though. They do seem outdated, even the lads and lasses part... what if you’re neither?

Surely everyone is or should be against fascism? Class system hasn’t been around for years. And if you believe it is, where is the link to fascism?

I'm sure it's well meaning, but it gives a very confusing message.

The Football Lads reference immediatelt had me thinking of the Football Lads Alliance, who are at the wrong end of the fascism scale.

I also don't get why the united working class reference is there if it's intended to be an anti-fascism message. Are non-working class folk not allowed to be against fascism then?

Overall, it feels like someone from Momentum is trying to disguise their message behind a Barnsley badge which has no real relevance to it.

Agree. Why is it aimed at Barnsley fans. The poster quite clearly stated on his thread, "I'm done" that he'd not renew his season ticket this season . I absolutely abhor fascism. But surely a unite against fascism badge would suffice. Don't use football for a political agenda.

Spot on pal. It’s like going back to the 70s again.

What’s next, working class against racism?

The class system doesn’t exist any more. And I know loads of folk who were from working class backgrounds who have done really well for themselves and are not considered to be ‘working class’ these days.

I used to have an actual BFC club badge like that. Not the matchday drinkers version. Got lost many years ago. I wouldn't mind replacing it if there's any knocking around.

How about "Barnsley FC Away Supporters - standing up since 1887 (except for the ones who shout "Sit darn!")"

My wife is a perfect example. Daughter of a miner who was disabled long before retirement age through arthritis working in a wet pit. Grew up in a rented terrace, outside toilet, tin bath in front of fire. Good honest Barnsley people, but poor even by the standards of living at the time. She passed her 11 plus and went to Broadway (yes I know Grammar schools are contentious) passed her 'O' an 'A' levels and then, ultimately became a teacher. Having worked hard (I often had 2 jobs neither of which paid well ) We now live-retired - comfortably, although not lavishly. debt free, in Italy. We know many people both here and in the UK who through hard work and determination have bucked the system and carved out a future for themselves and their kids.
My dad (the son of a Durham miner), was stationed in London in the RAF as a fitter and after the war, married and settled there, scrimped and saved and bought a house, working initially got a job as a GPO engineer, worked hard to get extra qualifications and after a variety of jobs ended up in a well paid job in the civil service. As he took more exams etc. we had to move quite a lot due promotions which disrupted family life but he settled in Barnsley and in no way would be described as working class. My wife and I both believe our attitude was inherited from our parents and instilled a good work ethic in us both (well it took longer in me) which we passed on to our daughter who is doing very nicely, good job, great husband, nice home and fantastic daughter.
Those who spend their time moaning about the system, Governments and everyone else, need to accept that the World does not owe them a living and whilst there is unfairness and inequality, you do, to a large extent make your own luck in this life. Take responsibility for your own life. You cannot change the world without first changing yourself.
