As I said, can’t write Fryers off just yet. Who would have thought we’d see ever see Mowatt again in a reds shirt, never mind be as commited and play like he has this season. Fyers came through Man U academy, played for Spurs, Palace, was an England youth, has experience playing in Europe. A few big money moves too. Highly rated but a career blighted by injury, and still in mid 20’s. Very similar to White in many respects. But playing at higher level.
Err, Davies was selected for Wales. Pinnilos injured. Fryers injured. Moore injured. Woodrow injured. How many squad players do you want to carry/pay just in case. Anyway, moving on!
I think everyone accepts we didn't acquire enough strikers (fit or otherwise) before the window closed. The spreadsheet also doesn't seem to cater for goalkeepers.
If we could keep White fully fit we'd have a better left back than a lot of championship clubs. Pacey, overlaps well with his winger to make space for them, can cross a ball and a good tackler. He'd easily be first choice for us.
If he were fit he would easily be the best left back at the club. I hope he can get fit and we can give him a pay as you play contract.
Agree that White is better than our other left backs. Under this system he could be a revelation. That means him being fit. Pay as you play. Send Williams out on loan in Jan. He's done well. Was given no cover vs Luton by an un-named player I dare not speak of. Pinillos has looked good this season. Fryers looked good at first last season, especially hitting dead balls. I suspect he could combust too, if turned up to 10. (OK will get mi coit).
Does the 'pay as you play' contract actually exist? I know it exists on here, but does it exist in the world of football? Why would a player sign a contract for no wage unless he is selected to play, when it is entirely out of his hands if he is selected to play or not? Why would a club select him to play when it would cost them considerably more to do so than if they selected another player, unless there really were no other options?
Not a contract but an agreed fee on a match by match basis. The player would not be tied to the club.
It sounds as very similar to a zero hours contract! Work = gets paid No work = doesn’t get paid Free to go work elsewhere if he wants Am I missing something?
Instead of zero hours you could pay him a basic weekly fee and then give big bonuses for appearances. Simple. That way at least he's got some income if he gets injured.
They do exist, but not usually with players that have played most of their career outside the top flight gravy train. A player such as White, while earning wages most people can only dream off throughout his career most probably won't be in a financial position where he could do without any income for 5 or 6 weeks if(when) he was injured. John Terry reportedly signed one in(I think) 2004 and a quick google brings up Diaby signing one at Arsenal.
Yup - this. It’s more than he’s getting now - unless he’s being paid under an insurance claim. He has no resale value though - that’s the issue.
Yes doesn't fit our model per se but if he adds value to the squad in terms of performance perhaps he's worth a punt for a relatively low investment, maybe send Williams out on loan for some game time.
I felt for young Ben Williams on Saturday. He had played well at Peterborough and rightly so, was given the shirt against Luton. You could sense from the outset he was busting a gut to impress and save for the penalty and a couple of occasions when he slipped, he played OK. He was probably trying a tad too hard throughout, but the fact that he's had a taste of first team football will stand him in good stead going forward. He was rightly subbed on Saturday and with Dani Pinillos back and Zeki Fryers probably a further week away from returning, his chances will probably be limited, but he should take heart from the fact that when called upon he did well and his time will probably come in the future.
As I u derstand it they are structured to provide a weekly income based on training etc as any normal employee this is pitched quite low with a heavy premium for playing.
Yes. They are usually structured to provide a basic income Albeit low by football standards good by ‘normal’ standards and then a top loaded appearance fee. A mate of mine and former red had one towards the end of his career.
