Entertainment Boycott more like - I used to take a book to read to cricket matches for when he was batting - I'm sure remember one game where he opened the batting and was still in single figures at Lunch. One of the most boring players to watch in the history of the game - one of the most boring pundits as well come to thing of it
A great batsman who stood firm against some of the most hostile bowling in the history of test cricket , bowlers had to get Boycott out , he never gave his wicket away , a master craftsman .
I see your quote and I raise you 'Gillette Cup final 1965' G Boycott ..............c Storey b Barrington 146 Surrey 142 all out
There was a match against New Zealand one and a half days to go England had a team meeting and due to the circumstances (follow on) of the match they agreed to throw the bat for a day and a half to rack up as many runs as they could get. 20 overs in and Boycott was still in single figures , the rest of the players and management in the dressing room had a meeting and decided they were going to run boycott out . Next player in was Ian Botham , he ran Boycott out on purpose . Boycott as walking past him started swearing at him and his last words were ,what did you ******* do that for its going to spoil my averages. don't think there's anything else to say about him ,completely sums him up
If he was asked to to a job at the crease more often than not he delivered. As much as Botham had issues he was also was one his greatest admirers. On Botham's list of his all time heroes.
I dont remember that one - I was only 2 at the time. Dont get me wrong Boycott was a very talented batsman and did a good job for Yorkshire and England on many occasions but in general it was more exciting to watch the outfield growing. It was frustrating because he was capable of scoring at a decent rate - I remember in a one day game him hitting Underwood straight over long on for 6 twice - I think in one over, but 5 day and 3 day cricket he was painful to watch
That of course is your opinion which is fine whilst I take the totally opposite view, I used love to watch him in three & five day cricket , his technical ability & innings building was what I used to love.
