Easy enough. There already is one that has all bar the english. I'd like to see it. Trouble is the irish north and south plus the welsh cant really compete above English fourth tier level at best.

Very difficult hopefully as it's not something I would want us involved in. Imagine on the already tight budget of most clubs you have an Irish side having to find the extra money to take over however many staff they would need for a match in this country. With an 18 man squad, few extra players, management, medical, media etc it would chew into playing budget.

It's bad enough having Welsh sides in our English leagues, without having to accomodate other countries who have their own cup competitions that aren't as popular as our own.

A competition like you suggest would certainly not hold any appeal to English Prem or Championship teams. I doubt if Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts or Hibs would be interested leaving the likes of Hamilton, Killie, Motherwell, St Johnstone, St Mirren and Dundee from the big league. The Welsh clubs would not include Cardiff or Swansea but the likes of TNS and Aberystwyth. The Irish clubs the likes of Bray Wanderers, Limerick, Crusaders and Coleraine.
I wouldn't mind it but I just could not see it catching on.
We in Scotland have opened up our Irn Bru cup to English Welsh N & S Irish clubs but it has not really caught the imagination of the fans. This year saw Sutton United play Dunfermline ( I Think). And East Fife have an outstanding game away to a S. Irish club. Fans have not turned out in any real numbers.
Don't know if you remember the Texaco Cup early 70s. The concept was tried but after a few years it failed.

I'd like to see it tried as a replacement for the Checkatrade but only if clubs took it seriously. Unfortunately they wouldn't. I'm afraid we're now in an age where league position and cash are more important than actually winning stuff.

Be better instead of under 18s include spl teams because I think apart from top few teams all is no better than league 1.

Would be a waste of time. The Scottish second tier is conference at best, the third and fourth is probably Unibond League.

There should be a competition for tiers three and four of our league that has some kudos. The FA Vase and Trophy offer chances for non league teams to actually win a cup. As there's no chance of clubs from our First and Second divisions to win the League or FA Cup there should be something available they can compete for.
Would I rather see us playing teams like Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts in such a competition rather than Everton U21s? Course I would. It would be a lot more interesting and would carry a lot more weight.

Deary me. Can I take it that you do not appreciate me posting on here then? I do support Barnsley if you did not already know.
And to be honest I think you perhaps missed the point of the thread. It is about the possibility of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish clubs maybe having a communal cup competition and not anything about an English clubs forum.

If the idea were to come to pass and we played each other in the final we could all buy half and half scarves.:)

    Nope. Not in the least.

Edit - I just think Scottish football is a very poor standard.

Now here I do agree with you in part. We are not at our best these days but maybe things not as bad as you like to point out.
Scottish football is suffering financially these days but there is still some good football to be had should you ever take the time to look for it.
Maybe we can talk this out at the BBS shindig in a couple of weeks. ;)

Just to clarify - I think Scottish football is a poor standard compared to English football. ThT will never change though because there's no brass in it and never will be.

But things have always been this way in the 60 years I have followed football. Always been more money south of the border and its worse now. ATM its possibly worse now than its ever been but things go in cycles. Things might take an upturn in a couple of years.

Lack of brass has killed the game in Scotland. I don't know how good Berwick Rangers or Cowdenbeath were historically compared to the English leagues but the days of Aberdeen beating Real Madrid or your boys beating Barcelona are not coming back. Which is probably bad for the game.

Well Berwick and Cowdenbeath have always just been making up the numbers really. Berwick's claim to fame came in 67 when they knocked the old Rangers out of the cup 1-0. And I'm sure Cowden must have had at least 1 moment of glory.
As for your comment on United and Aberdeen again I cannot give you and argument as it's unfortunately true that it is highly unlikely those days will ever return......but I did see them and my team play in a European final and nothing can take that away.
But we live in hope just like you live in hope of another FA Cup success.
