I had been receiving free Sky Sports for Mobile for the last couple of years and thought it was still running until February. However, it stopped on the 24 November and I didn't know why that had happened. After two long and pointless online chat conversations I was getting nowhere so I decided to ring 191 which is their free help number. I was expecting the same "Oh yes indeedy I will be most definitely helping you with that today" etc etc but got a better result.

I mentioned that I was paying too much and did not want to renew my contract. The agent put me through to another department and, hey presto, they immediately came up with a much better offer. For the same as I was getting before PLUS a free Now TV pass for six months I will now be paying £21.60 per month instead of £67.36. Happy with that but annoyed that I wasn't offered anything like that last time I visited the Vodafone shop.

I suppose the key thing is that I am not upgrading my phone, which I am entitled to now. There is no point - it's an iPhone 7 plus in perfect working order and completely undamaged and I am happy with it for a year or two longer, so why pay more? Just shows what you can get if you ask!

Not trying to burst your bubble, but they havent saved you anything.

Your contract was up, probably on the 24th November when the Sky sports ended. You are now paying £21.60 for a SIM only deal, which to be quite honest is ludicrous, unless you have unlimited data, and you need it. You could get a SIM only contract for a tenner.

Glad you're in love with Vodafone.... i cancelled my deal with them in July and they're still sending me demands for money they say I owe them since then. I'm sick of talking to them, it's pointless exercise, the last letter they sent me was to tell me my account was cancelled (!!!!????) and that I had 15 days to respond to the letter or they'd put me on the credit reference list and send round collectors !!!
    All for thirty quid.

Firstly,I was confused that Sky had stopped because my Red Value plan was running until 8 Feb 19. I naturally assumed that Sky Sports was good until then.
Secondly, I don't think I have a SIM only deal. I get the usual unlimited calls and texts plus 10gb of data per month (way more than I need actually). I also have an extra 2gb available if I am roaming as part of my Global Roaming deal.
I thought it was expensive when I started the current deal but I was getting a brand new iPhone with no upfront costs. I am now happy with a saving of over £40 per month and, as I said, am happy to keep this phone for a while longer. It's a good product.

If your contract wasn't up until february, they will have put the negative equity of the handset into the new contract.

A good % of the contract price is paying for the handset. probably £40 a month. of the initial £67 or so. Spread over 2 years is £960. Seems about right. if you run out in feb, there would have been around £80 left on the handset. They will have split this over the next 1 or 2 years, where you will very likely be paying more than £80.

It's not as bad of a deal as I initially thought, with you being still in contract until february.

If the new deal is 1 year, you've got yourself a good deal, if it's 2 years, you've been ripped off, in my opinion and you would have been better waiting until feb (assuming you can afford to) and then getting a £14 a month contract SIM only.

Thanks for your advice. I'm as confused by mobile contracts as most people I suppose and tend to stick with what I have if it is working. To be fair I have been pleased with Vodafone over the years, never seeming to be in black spots or having down time. I rarely use by monthly data allowance, being able to log into wifi at home and doing it outside whenever possible. Getting Sky Sports "free" was a real bonus as I can watch cricket and the odd football match on my decent sized phone screen without paying £30 a month to Sky for TV watching.
If it's ever possible to be "happy" with a phone deal then I would say I just about am :). I know there's always something better out there though.

No OP. You have a sim-only deal. Having paid 60-odd for however long, you now own the handset. Your new contract is only for the simcard. And as the other poster noted, there are a lot of better deals than 20+ a month. Glad you're happy, though. The iphone 7 is a very capable product imho.

That’s about as good a deal as the average user would need. Good price and adequate data, nearly all give free texts, over 4 hours of calls is usually ok too

I'm having similar problems... Been going on since August after they put me on pay as you go for some reason.

My bill was up to date so when I rang to see what was going on they recconected me within half an hour which I thought meant it was sorted.... 13 Times they cut me off after that every 3 or 4 days.

I kept gettting in contact to be told my bill was showing I owe £900 odd which was incorrect then promised it would be altered to stop me getting cut off which it wasn't so last week I told them if it wasn't sorted this time it's going in the bin.

Its absolutely pathetic I'd been with them 6 years before all this and I've now had to change numbers and go with another provider because they can't between 13 of them rectify a simple issue that they time and time again agreed wasn't my fault.

You shouldn't have to change your number, just ask vodaphone for a PAC code, they have to give you one by law. BTW the number doesn't belong to them it belongs to you.

No such thing as having to change your number I,ve had the same for the last 15 years and changed provider numerous times.
