First of all we have a recruitment department. Start the process with identifying the way we want to play so worked with Daniel to do that. Daniel works with the recruitment team to come up with profiles for each position based on the way he wants us to play. Then we have James and some analysts who go through data and maybe identify 50 players for each position from all over Europe. Then we will filter that down to maybe 27 or 28. Then video scout maybe 20 and narrow down the list again ( 2 video scouts, 4 reports per scout). Then maybe we have between 5 and 10 and then GG looks at the situation financially and what is the situation for the player and if we can get them out. Is there something possible? Then we maybe we end up with 3. Do 15mn clips of good things and bad things and what the player needs to be improved to take player from a to b. Asses their potential. Then show Daniel and involve his staff and he ranks them in order of preference. GG goes to get them starting with the #1 option. if we can't get the favorite for maybe financial reasons we look at the second one.

I wonder how many potential good footballers (as opposed totmoney making machines) are discarded purely based on their age who would otherwise have the statistics to get to the next stage.

Does this put it finally to bed then?

But what about Brad Pitt and Billy Beane?

Am I write in reading it as James Cryne is essentially director of football?

No you haven't it was just a bit of a leap from me. He's a director and from how you said it he heads the analysis and initial targeting of players which seems to be a director of football sort of role?
I mean director of football in a more literal sense like how we have a finance director rather than in the way people always assume a director of football is someone who is secretly running the team

Don't think the involvement, as described, really fits into the usual sort of Director of Football type roles. That said, I have no real view on what his remit is.

I'm just trying to work out how all the various directors and 9wners fit in and what they do because they've been very secretive about it so far.

Billy beane is involved somehow but he isn't really a major shareholder from what I gather. Chief lee is a major shareholder but other than that is rarely mentioned. Then there's grace hung and obviously James and Robert Zuk who are the only two who ive any idea what they really do

Thanks for that Gally. Pretty much highlights why we need to give some of these players a bit of leeway if they don't hit the ground running. All about improvement and potential.

Say we get into the championship next season. Obviously we would be going down the same route, albeit trying to target better players, but is there a bit of flexibility with it? For example, would we sign a more experienced player if the price was right and it improved the team?

I'm pretty open minded about how we will recruit. Obviously the owners liked the way we brought players on, and will continue that way, but I think they will tailor things as time goes by.

Pretty sure that is part of the process even though not specifically mentioned this time (has in the past)

As mentioned before dont believe Bean has been involved a great deal up to now but that will change very soon as his current role ends.

That seems a good way to work. The problem with it us where you gave managerial.merry go round . I really would like Daniel to be at the club for a significant amount of time and have us really push on in the Championship with the good team spirit and style of football we are showing.

That’s nothing like a director of football role.

Would have thought reading between the lines of the report, once video scout reduces to around 20, they will then use watching in person as part of remit to reduce
