I remember a great Clive Baker one-handed save but, for the life of me, I can't remember who it was against.
Alan Kelly in front of the ponte from (i think) a Payton header. My favourite was Watson outdoing Martin Ling for Swindon when clean through and time stood still it took so long for him to get to shoot. Watsons double save at St James Park in the cup was pretty special too.
Greatest penalty any of our keepers have ever saved with that Neil Mellor effort heading straight for the top corner. Peter Schmeichel did a save for Man United once that was compared to the Banks/Pele one..... https://www.shropshirestar.com/spor...f-the-greatest-goalkeeping-saves-of-all-time/
They've just showed the Banks / Pele save again on the BBC news. Banks had absolutely no right getting across and clawing it out from under the bar. All he got was a pat on the arse from Bobby Moore.
Gordon Banks all day long imo. The Higuetta save flattered to deceive imo it was easily catchable and he let it go over his head to do just that , great skill but not a great save imo
Definately against Brazil, even Pele was celebrating the Never goal, and admitted it was nailed on, and it was the Greatest save. THE CAT
Schmeichel v Rapid Vienna. On that list, big Dave Seaman. I think the Banks one is overhyped because it was Pele who headed it. It wasn’t even a match winning save, so it doesn’t get my vote.
The Higuita save was fake as play was dead due to a foul and the ref blowing his whistle which allowed Higuita to showboat.
I think it was Coventry home or perhaps spurs in the premier league season and David Watson was incredible - best goal keeping performance I have ever seen - that or when a young Shay Given played for Sunderland against us at Oakwell - at one point he was concust and we still couldn’t get it past him.
I always find it impossible to decide on 'the' best save, there have been so many brilliant keepers and there are so many are so many variables. Banks was always one of my favourite keepers, but even then from that era I'd probably say Pat Jennings was my favourite. It seems like heresy to say it but I don't think Gordons ( as good a save as it was) would be in my top few
