whilst it was a good result for us, their time wasting was an absolute disgrace. Seems like more and more teams are going to extreme lengths to waste time rather than backing their own abilities.

Another way us fans gerrin shafted payin to watch tossers go to the floor for no reason rarely get 90 mins these days.

Not going to lie I was urging the keeper to go down every time he got the ball, should really feel sympathy for the Sunderland fans though because I remember southend doing it at Oakwell and its horrible to watch.

However, I don't think the referees help, one incident last night a blackpool player went down late on and the ref demanded him to leave the field, but instead of booking him to speed up the process he just walked slowly with him with his arm in the air. I did find it funny but if that was at Oakwell id be seeing it totally different.

You're right though something needs to be done about it.

Worst I’ve seen in a long time. Especially when one player went down with ‘cramp’ so they kicked the ball out, the Sunderland threw the ball back to them but the keeper guarded the ball as it trickled out of play and took forever to take the goal kick. They were taking the piss to the extreme but at least it was in our favour.

I've said it time and time again, there should be an independent timekeeper (4th official?) who times the ball in play, and stops the watch each time play stops. A suitable playing time, say 35 minutes each way should be laid down. Time wasting would then become pointless, except to have a breather. In-play time wasting, for example by keeping the ball in a corner, would still be allowed, and rightly so. So would the Luke Steele type of time wasting.

Sunderland fans complaining on their forum about the ball boys not seeming to take any interest in getting the ball back into play quickly when all this was going on. If it weren't for the strange dialect I could easily log in there and forget where I am.

Let’s hope we score early on Saturday because Wycombe are another lot just like Blackpool. Ainsworth will be telling them to waste time right from the start so it’s important we get at least one or two in the first half

I dunno if it's continued in the past couple of matches but they were recently on a run of injury time at the end of games of something like between 4-6 minutes in 8 consecutive games. Plymouth boss Derek Adams wasn't pleased the other week. The refs are adding on time for the time wasting, but it doesn't make up for the constant breaks in play that ruin your momentum.

If their own ball boys are slow in getting it back into play then they can't moan as far as I'm concerned. Teams don't waste the full 90 mins and Sunderland had plenty of time (and an open goal!) to win.

Historically we've been rubbish at time wasting and teams have nicked the winer/equaliser against us!

Wasn’t the ref last night the same comic who was in charge for our game v Rochdale? Carl Boyeston who yellow carded Adam Davies when the Dale goal keeper and others had been wasting time virtually from the kick off. He is about as much use as Trevor Kettle

What infuriates me is when a player goes down feigning injury. Sometimes the opposition kick the Ball out because they think it's the honourable thing to do. ****** get on with it. Who gives a ****. Unless he's unconscious or got an obvious fracture. I'd be laughing my tits off if we scored while one was down. Glad we took advantage of the hammill situation even if I like him.

Spot on by On Yer Tyke...I still now refer to the Southend game as the most appalling I ever saw, there are many instances where the goalie should be booked in the 1st half for it but invariably the ref will show a card in the 87th minute. lots of the guys around me think the player going down should then leave the field for the same amount of time that they stopped the game for, 3 or 4 minutes at the end with 10 men dunt look appealing.
Also if the goalie does it replace him, there's a spare on the bench..then add the sub time..

We've seen it in most home games this season at Sunderland but ultimately its our own fault for putting ourselves in the position where we are chasing the game. We only really showed urgency in the second half when we were already 1 down. Mind you last night was the worst it's been, had the ref booked one or two for it then it would have improved but he insisted on giving players a good talking to hence wasting more time.

Yes one ball boy got a bit stick from a few supporters for not vaulting the hoardings and getting the ball, felt sorry for the lad but when the chips are down some people will lash out at anything and anyone.

Fair play to Barnsley, you play a attractive style of football and you are the best team I have seen at the Stadium of Light this season, including Luton who we drew with recently.

I suppose if your a team that’s punching above it’s weight as Blackpool last night they’re great tactics if your in the points and holding on . But if you’re on receiving end it fekin frustrating .
It’ll never stop but as said I think timekeeping should be taken away from refs.

Spot on. I love NFL and I know it's a completely different game but the time played is completely transparent. It's hard to know what a practical solution is, maybe allowing play to continue when a player goes down. Or if a player goes down injured or when a sub is made the clock stops.

It's great when your team benefits from it but overall its cheating supporters of playing time.

A good referee could manage the situation if given authority but with the tick box marking system the FA deploy as daft as balm a good decision could be marked down .
As far as I can gather they are marked on the manner if decision rather than the decision itself which is baffling imo that a ref can be be given points or whatever for how he handled decision than whether the decision was right or not .

I never knew that, that's just plain crazy but not a surprise that is how the FA do things.
