Six clean sheets on the bounce which is amazing. Four games from the last six we've drawn a blank which is beginning to get concerning for a team with automatic promotion aspirations. We continue to shoot from positions where you might score once in every hundred attempts and as such squander possession in the opposition's final third as the ball flies into the stand. Let's be fair, Doncaster were miles better than us first half and we could easily have been 3-0 down by the break. But we weren't lucky, we just happen to have a very good goalkeeper. We pay him well to do what he did, that's not luck. Second half we were the better side, but didn't really look like winning it. It was a patchwork quilt of a team and it showed in that opening 45, but they all dug deep and worked hard. It was a creditable draw and Donny can't have any complaints as we nullified them after the break. Davies - Has he ever played better? If he has it can't have been much better. Flawless performance. Ben Williams, Dougall and Fryers Sliding in, not touching the man and winning the ball is a sending off. Accidentally treading on someone is cause for a disciplinary committee and a three match ban. Leathering the **** out of someone's calf, kicking them as hard as you possibly can, that's OK. What was he trying to do, kick the ball clean over the stand? That's what would have happened if he'd made contact with it. Not much chance of that like as he was nowhere near it and wasn't aiming for it. Ben Williams was having a nightmare. Wilks had him on toast. And then our anchor in midfield is lucky his leg is still attached. Two problems fixed with one substitution. Fryers to left back, Williams into the centre. Fryers did well, particularly as we haven't seen him for months. He contained Wilks for the rest of the game. Williams took his time, but he did grow into the match and there was certainly no lack of effort. Lindsay Not as impressive as Tuesday but solid. Pinnock Reminded me of Alan Hansen or Viv Anderson. Imperious. Definite penalty when a Donny player took hold of him by the scruff of the neck and caused his body to move in flight in a way that is simply impossible unless someone has taken hold of you by the scruff of the neck. Seen by everyone but the referee. Cavare Strong and fast but too indecisive going forward, which is his failing at the moment. Looks capable of Premier League if he could sort that out. Mowatt I wish I had his energy. Never stops running. Maybe not quite as effective with the ball as he sometimes is, but without it he was fantastic. Thiam and J Williams Effort but not effective. Chance fell to Williams but he fluffed it. He's young, hopefully gets better. Woodrow and Adeboyejo They both did OK with little to feed on. Bahre Much much better than Tuesday. Helped keep possession in their half of the pitch in the second half and a big part of our improvement in that second period. There's no way we would have played that team had everyone been fit and available. We could easily have lost the game by half time, but we didn't. We worked very hard and a got a valuable point. I don't doubt we'll work hard for the rest of the season. I do wonder if we can score enough goals to cement that second spot. We'll see...
I'm only going to get concerned about the goal tally if we fail to score on Saturday. It was only 1 week ago we scored 2 in a match and a fortnight ago we scored 3. Agree with the player assessments, For me, the big plus is we play as a team, we help each other out.
Good assessment Jay.The lack of goals could be down to our opponents apart possibly from Burton. Nil nil against top 6 rivals isn't too much of an issue. If the goals dry up against the so called lesser teams then we may have a problem. 3 against Southend and 2 against Accrington showed what we can do and hopefully in the next few games we'll find our scoring boots again.
Have to say that’s a nice balanced assessment which makes a nice change than half the guff some spout on here
We made some poor decisions , kept the ball too long sometimes in the attacking third , Cavare doesnt like to pass it seems , unless its a cross.
If someone thinks the same as another poster on a particular topic then what’s the point in creating another thread/post? Just effort for no reason.
Aye, it's backbreaking. Read the post I quoted. He referred to guff posted on here not in this thread. I am asking why doesn't he provide his own opinions or assessments to cut through what he perceives to be guff. I can't believe I am having to explain this.
We might score if we resorted to putting early quality balls into the six yard box and leaving scorers to do what they do best.
I would guess that it’s because their opinion shares with what the OP has said. If someone agrees with the original post then what is the point in them creating other posts saying the same thing? I can’t believe I am having to ask this.
Wow. And you accuse me of having a pop at anyone and everyone on here. #hypocriticalorwhat BTW what were your thoughts on the game last night.
Fair enough but I think DS should get a fair bit of praise. It's the mark of a good manager that can turn a first half battering around like that and almost nick it.
He did shuffle the pack well after Kenny’s injury but I thought Victor was very quiet and would have replaced him with Green to inject a bit of pace in the last 25 mins or so. Pleased to see Bahre looking good and making a difference.
