Barton is understood to be claiming he barged into the back of his German counterpart, who fell head first into the metal support inside the tunnel, damaging his two front teeth and leaving Stendel bloodied and shaken.

Due to take training tomorrow after a pre areanged break today. Fleetwood saying police haven't asked to speak to him.

Pays to wait and get the facts and not rumours. Still. I don’t know how Barton got employed given his past and the profile of the job.

Cops won’t be seen again. They have issued a crime reference number so done their job now.

I've reported 3 crimes in my life, all 3 investigations ended with an incident number and absolutely no follow up. One of them being a burglary, another my 14 year old self being held at knife-point many years ago, and another when travellers came into our back yard to try to steal our dog. 3 crimes I'd consider to be serious and 3 times nothing was done.

Twice for me. Both burglaries. Still, as long as the Tories can offer big tax cuts come election time, eh?

    Claim on insurance.
If DS watched daytime tv he'd see enough adverts to cover every calamity .
Death, funeral costs, over 50s insurance, and now "If you've had a bust up in a tunnel and it wasn't your fault then call Mind That Metal Post.com on 07890 654765 and talk to our caring team of dental advisors."

exactly. I had my car stolen a few weeks ago from the drive obviously using a device. Crime reference number provided. No sign of police. Daughters how broken into daytime. Same. The police have not been supported by the courts. Now not by gov and reduced numbers means they will as a priority avoid any extra work other than caught red handed. The South Yorkshire crime rates have increased, the number of unsolved / not followed up is just over 50% for S.Yorks and the council tax element for police and commissioner has risen14%. Not a cat in hells chance we will see further investigation on this.

I had my wallet stolen by a sneak thief who snuck in the kitchen. They spent 400 quid in an hour on my bank card. Police turned up got cctv pictures and they knew who it was. Police returned to say that they went to his house and no one was in.... the end.
I asked my mate (copper) to check the crime number and he said it was filed. In other words that’s it.

Burglary and assault are different though. I would expect less investigation into the former unless it was mega money If cctv/film shows what happened then the police will charge him

Sad to say but I doubt it, there as been countless incidents captured on CCTV, phones, dash cams etc. And most go unpunished.
It's just a sad fact of life today

This has become a bit of a high profile case, though. It's made the national news, they can't just brush it under the rug.

There aren’t enough police. In Barnsley there is often only one or two patrol cars at any one time. Criminals know this, so cause a disturbance in Royston, then when police turn up, ring their mates in Wombwell who know they’ve got a good 20/30 mins to do what they want. They are underfunded and not seen as a necessity by successive governments, resulting in the poor service we now have.

God help you if you’re speeding though...

This is the worst attitude. These are 2 separate matters, your dangerous and selfish behaviour isn’t excused because someone else is worse. Take some responsibility. Speed limits are there for a reason.

Sounds like the plot to Die Hard. Pretend to be a terrorist so you can steal from the federal reserve.

As is your attitude... I wasn’t saying speeding was inexcusable, I was saying that you’re more likely to be done and fined for it, than anyone who thieves.

Obviously you’ve never been over the speed limit...

it’s not about somebody else being worse, it’s about the fact that you can be assaulted/robbed and expect little more than a crime number, and an apologetic... “we know who did it, but not enough evidence to go through the courts”, from the police. But you seem to think that police time is best spent sat at the side of a road with their speed gun out....
