Bet it will be a very low turnout. I'd forgotten about it until the day and that's with my daughter being able to vote for the first time Didn't see much literature around.

Brexiteers punishing Labour in the North and Remainers punishing Tories down south.
At least with more Independents we might get decisions made more on individual issues rather than blind toeing of party dogma.

Yep, definitely in theory. I was being idealistic rather than realistic I'm afraid.

This Remainer punished Labour in the North. First time I’ve voted for a different party.

I will be in the Euro elections (no vote yesterday for me). For the first time I'm voting Green.

Local issues have played a big part in Barnsley. Dissatisfied with Houghton running Barnsley like as fiefdom, and Penny Pie Park

I heard Steve Houghton on Radio 4 this morning, He mentioned something about the "Bregsit effect" on the election result. A number of politicians and political commentators say "BREGSIT". There is no "G" in Brexit. Brexit is a portmanteau work combining BRitain and EXIT giving the word "BREXIT".

    Rand over.

I’m currently watching some Tory MP on the BBC saying the results are down to them not delivering Brexit. At the same time the ‘Breaking News’ is ‘Major Gains for Lib Dems and Greens’. Hmmm....

I've been ranting about this since the referendum, bloke in the street calls it Bregsit, no problem. As you say politicians and political commentators saying it? That's just embarrassing.

It's very difficult to make an analysis of this vote, it should have been on local issues but it seems to have been on Brexit and with two parties the Greens and Lib Dems gaining most seats that says to me voters want another vote on the EU.

predictable really, although in a way its a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face surely in local elections you vote for the person who is most likely to get stuff done. Biggest surprise in the euro elections will be if anybody can actually be arsed to vote.

Labour are too complacent in Barnsley. Not heard a peep from our ex councillor since the last election. The only candidate that bothered to go round and post his plans and philosophy took the seat from Labour.

I think you were right first time, the big parties do not like Independents, first and foremost because they can't be controlled. It doesn't seem to matter which of the big two control a council, once they have a comfortable majority they can whip their Cllrs into pushing through policies that are unpopular and sometimes damaging ( Sheffield's tree policy for example)...an ideal situation for me is to have a Council with no overall control and a balance of Independents who can vote by conscience, not swayed or forced by threat of deselection .

    Turnout was abysmal really.

Think it will be massive losses in the MEP elections later this month, can see the Brexit party taking a hold there.
