Can't see it. I think people are fed up. I'll never understand why anyone will vote for someone that isn't going to ever turn up to be their representative but still get paid. Someone who's entire philosophy is to make the position of the UK in Europe worse.
I understand people’s current frustration (even though I’m a remainder)! If you vote for Farage’s merry band of nutter, you may well get what you don’t want or expect! The MEO in eu fisheries attended 1 in 40+ meetings, didn’t you Nige!
I can't vote for Labour anymore, Tories have been on the ropes for ages yet Labour can't seem to finish them off, so I'm voting Green until a viable party emerges that I can get behind (or until Labour gets shut of Corbyn and they get a level headed centre-left leader).
The biggest gaining party last night although only a few seats but massive increase in numbers was the Spoilt Ballot Party.
The party's that support Brexit all lost seats, the ones that support Remain/Peoples Vote all gained seats....interesting.
Hmm so the Tories and UKIP sustained massive losses and Labour also lost seats The Lib Dems and Greens sustained massive gains and May says the Tory losses are about not delivering Brexit That doesnt make much sense to me
Opposite for me. In the Old Town Ward, the only canvasing I got was from the Labour candidate, hence got my vote. The Independent candidate lost by 20 votes; if they'd put a bit of effort in they might have won.
Labour didnt even field candidates in Farnham Just Tories a Lib Dem and independent result still not in but we are Hunts constituency so hoping there is a large protest vote against our MP
Don’t expect any sense from the Maybot - she is still just chanting sound bites (in the national interest, Leave means leave, brexit means brexit, red white & blue brexit, strong & stable, getting on with the job) - crikey, it must work cos I’m remembering them - her best ones are Boris is a dick, Nigel is a nutter, Who’s Gavin Williamson - ok, I made the 1st two up!
When I worked for Doncaster County Borough Council one of my jobs was to present reports to full Council. In those days, there were five Tories and two Independents, whilst the majority of the Council were Labour. Most of the latter were there due to the support from NUM members in their various constituencies. Their leader used to come into our office the week before any Council meetings and pore over reports and research documents for any projects to be tabled at the meeting the following week. He would come in between two and three days running and précis the points that were going to be discussed. That way, he could decide which of their number would speak at the meeting and how they could totally control proceedings including the outcome of any vote. One of the Tory Councillors was a really nice modest bloke. If ever he put anything up for discussion he used to get slated. The abuse that that guy was subjected to was unbelievable. Come the night of the meeting at The Mansion House, it was reminiscent of a Bear Pit in Ancient Rome. We used to often hear that one Councillor or another was asking for " incentives" to help some of their electorate overcome perceived "business expansion difficulties" but nothing was ever proved. I once applied for a top job and at the interview I was asked by a Councillor, if I was a card carrying member of the Labour Party and when I replied that I was not, I kind of knew right away that in my heart of hearts, I wasn't going to get the job. Years later, when the Donnydate scandal broke over irregularities in the business being done by elected representatives representing the new Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, few people who I had worked with at the old Authority up to it being abolished as a result of the Lord Redcliffe - Maude Report on the need to re-organise of Local Government, were shocked at the scale of corruption and the ill advised actions of some Councillors that was uncovered. Expulsion from the Labour Party, loss of jobs and a good name, jail sentences ,heavy fines and being ostracised in your own community did nothing to enhance the reputation or spirit of those who were publically disgraced. I used to socialise with a couple of them and after the trial you could see both men suddenly go downhill and turn old overnight. One became so ill he ended up in a wheelchair and another had a couple of heart attacks. Sadly, both died within months of each other and at the end of the day, you have to ask, was it worth destroying your life and reputation to gain a few quid. I think I know the answer and it's a resounding no.
Always a protest vote at this time . In my area I had two choices , blues or reds . The smug Tory leader was well happy . I wonder what would have happened if there had been a credible alternative option . Pity that Screaming Lord Such is no longer with us . Now that would have been a protest vote .
