Our older members on here will know that during these years clubland in South Yorkshire was booming. I'm intrested in the acts that became household names and wonderd if any of you had any old cassettes of acts from this era. I'm talking about people like Charlie Williams Cannon & Ball Freddie Starr Marti Caine Roy Chubby Brown And others. All of these acts used to sell tapes of stuff they have done and I'm hugely interested in these if you have any knocking about drop me a line. Many thanks.

Paddy came to our Club for the ever first time in the early eighties. Bat sh*t crazy. I used to book the acts and announce them on stage for their first set. As I climbed the steps to go to the Mic, Paddy got hold of it and said " Ladies and Gentlemen it's been such a long time since we were here last. It's great to see you." I took the Mic off him and whispered out of the corner of my mouth " you've never been here before". He just looked at me and said " Jeezuz has it been that long."? He went on to give a brilliant performance. His Band were falling about laughing at some of his antics. When we were paying the guitarist at the end of the night, he said that was because they hadn't a clue what the daft sod might do next. Great spontaneity. Great act.
God how many clubs have I walked out of with sides splitting watching him forgot all about him, what clubland could do with entertainment like that these days.
I remember when Paddy and the Band first turned up, we went into the office to agree the timings of their sets. Paddy looked really agitated and said he'd leave his guitarist and myself to sort it all out, because he had something to attend to. The band member told me, Paddy had been whittling all the way to our venue because they were low on diesel and he wouldn't settle until it was sorted out. I asked why he couldn't wait until the end of the gig and he said, because he's not that kind of fella, he won't go on till it's sorted. The first set was timed for 8pm. By 8.25pm there was still no sign of him. He finally burst through the door at the back of the room after walking there and back to the nearest filling station with a fuel can. His hands were dirty. He wiped them on the back of a band members shirt and proceeded to go on to put on a brilliant show. A very naturally funny act, no obscene language or innuendo, just pure comedy.
