Just met him on the Trans-Pennine trail between Cortonwood and Elsecar, I've met him in the past but talking to him today merely confirms what I previously thought, which is that he is a Top Bloke and a Reds fan at heart.
Did you see a peculiar man hidden in the bushes beforehand with a "I love Hecky" shirt on and a burning French flag next to him?
Yes that’s my opinion. Whatever yer do - don’t mention owt he said to you on here. You only will get negative and cynical comments. BTW - that’s where I spoke to him.
I used to live a couple of doors down from him and so spoke to him a few times and you're right he is a top bloke who loves BFC.
I think he might be a nice bloke. However, for last three months of his tenure he was miserable as sin and rightly moved on to pastures new. Best of luck to him at Hibernian.
Employee being made to feel uncomfortable and unwanted - who then becomes miserable as sin. That’s a revelation to me - I’ve never heard that one before!!!
The words to use are ‘anger and sadness’. Anger directed towards Patrick Cryne and the rest of the directors because they made a catastrophic mistake of not extending the contracts of certain players after promotion - and the sadness that the directors didn’t have the money to rectify that mistake in December 2016 when the club was ONE POINT off the Championship playoff place. It’s been said hundreds of times - but I’ll say it again. If Hecky had a couple of players added to that squad, then with the momentum of the team at that time, there is a high probability that the club could have seen itself back in the Premeir League. Instead of adding to that great team - there were 8 (EIGHT) players of that team up for sale. When Barnsley won the 2015/16 playoff final - there was a decision made by the directors NOT to extend players contracts. From that point on the club was destined for relegation back to the 1st Division. Fingers crossed these new owners have looked at Barnsley’s recent history and have made strides not to repeat it.
None !!! A manager that put together a team of relatively cheap players - and they played some of the most attractive football I’ve ever seen at the WELL. Give the guy a bit of money to compete and he would have taken us into the Premeir League. The only reason we as fans are not screaming for Hecky to return is because the club has unearthed another gem in Daniel Stendel.
Fletcher. Him that played an important role in getting us promoted - including scoring at Wembley. I haven’t got a list of the rest of the players he signed. I know that I for one haven’t forgotten the blistering football that took the Championship by storm at the beginning of the 2016/17 season.
He didn't with Leeds though did he, so why would he with us? Bielsa pretty much had them in the top 3 all season, a team largely the same as what Hecky had at his disposal yet he only mustered 16 points from 16 games- piss poor for a squad of Leeds' quality. I'm sure Hecky is a good manager and agree that losing key players is unfair on managers, but he's not as amazing as you think he is IMO. I'd rather have Stendel.
