I quite like the look of the shirt, but I do like a collar. The brick effect looks ok... I just hope they are going to glue shards of glass on the shoulders. Stop them cheating defenders grabbing the strikers shoulders and dragging them to the ground (got to be ultra realistic)Great idea.
It sounds like i’m In the minority but I like it! diaby and anderson will look like a brick wall at the back and thiam will look like the thing from fantastic 4 rampaging up the wing!!
Looks fine to me too - if they do a long sleeved version. In which case the cuffs need not be so long, white and pronounced. A bit less like Liberace.
Am i not seeing something with the collar, people are saying they like it but it just looks normal to me.
It should be white to match the sleeves but its red and adds nothing to the design. Last seasons design with the brick effect and a round neck white collar would have sufficed but they managed to **** that up.
For the last few pre-seasons folk have scoured the Internet to find any other Puma kit, ideally in red, such as Swindon Town, and post a picture of it on social media under slogans like 'This is what our **** new kit will look like'. Then we get the old 'why the delay with the new kit' debate. Now, personally, I am not a fan of any football shirt. I just don't like the material they are made of, or the fact you get one season out of them for nigh on 50 quid. But...two seasons running, now, we have had a bespoke Barnsley shirt. Not your generic plain red with just a touch of white. This possibly even explains the belated launch dates we seem to suffer too. So, I won't be buying one, but I do think it is, again, brilliantly Barnsley and unique.
Lots of potential headline and commentator use there..."the brick wall that is Barnsley's defence", let's hope it's not used ironically.
There was a similar reaction to the now iconic Shaw Carpets white star shirt. I loved that and still have it. I’ll be buying this one. First time since FA Cup semi-final shirt in 2008.
As with anything, it's just personal taste whether you like it or not. Think we've set ourselves up to have the piss ripped out of us for a season though. A brick wall. Solid. Nothing gets through. Analogous with a good defence. No problem if we have one. We've just been promoted to a league awash with money. Things are going to be tough. We've lost our goalkeeper and our two centre halves. Our brick wall was torn down. No one is sure what we've replaced that with yet. It might be a hedge or a fence. It might be the beginnings of another wall, but as it's being put together, the chances are it's going to have some huge gaps in it. Next season is going to be hard enough without inviting the rest of the country to laugh at us.
Think it looks better as a full.kit, the white of the sleeves matches the shorts and socks. Would look less good with Jean's.
Just subjective, but other than red and white being complimentary for our identity, I think the whole thing jars and doesn’t blend well. I think most of us love the hooped socks, but they just don’t go with the brick effect and those huge white sleeves. At the end of the day it’s a shirt. I think they’ve tried to do too much with it and tried to be too clever. Personally, I don’t think being clever in this case has carried into a good end outcome. Hopefully the away kit is a lot better.
Always love reading your posts....you're the new red rain. however a short reply to your kit response.....jeez....it's just a bloody shirt. bit of an overstatement to say the that the whole country will be laughing at us!! l love the hooped socks and the bricks. let them laugh if they want to!
Was probably being all dramatic saying the whole country but I do believe we've invited a number of sarcastic match reports and phone in comments by doing this. I don't think it was the wisest design choice. I like the socks though.
