because he ‘looks better’ under their light.

The **** is going on in the world. Nobody should be using anything except LED in 2019.

Another throw away line by Trump to make light of the actual damage caused by yet more reversal of environmental protections.
The man is a disgrace as is the bulk of his party. They nakedly legislate against the man in the street and the environment yet there are people over there and even one of two on this board who idolise him.

It is . beyond belief that a good number of people think this ridiculous racist liar is alright - one of my brothers amongst them. I regularly have boozy pub arguments with one of my friends about Trump. He thinks that because he convinced one of his motor manufacturers not to build a factory in Mexico, but in the U.S. instead he has the interests of the working man as a priority. I believe America has the most stupid people on the globe amongst it's population - their continued support for this loony only reinforces that.

Oh and I forgot to mention, all those over here that like him are Brexiteers. Not sure what to read into that but it is my experience that is the case.

Have to say that the people I know and have spoken to who like Trump are not only Brexiteers but hate Corbyn as well. Oh I nearly forgot and like Farage. Disclaimer, I’m not saying all Brexiteers all fall into any of the above.

He'll be promoting a square wheel next, with "Make America Great Again" emblazoned across it.

The argument not to enforce low energy bulbs in the USA just yet, isn’t as daft as it seems.

There is a backstory - and it’s not as bonkers as some think. But as usual, only the headline gets printed.......

On another note and standing back from Trumpism to observe it I do think that the rise/popularity of Trump is in part an American reaction to declining world influence. The USA is being overtaken by China in many respects now and for me Trump's combative rhetoric, full of bluster, reflects that. 'Make America Great Again' is a recognition of decline and Trump is a knee jerk reaction to it. My opinion of course.

You are, not far off the truth.

China throw out cheap and sometimes sub-standard products and flood market places. Chinese steel has killed the British and European market - and it’s poor stuff.

Same with Chinese slate - cheap for roofs, but nowhere near as good as say Welsh slate.

Add to the fact that Chinese industry are heavy polluters, and then you’ve got the additional pollution of shipping it world wide.

We’ve all sat back and said great, we’ll take it. But then watched our own industries collapse because of it.

We’ve all bought 5m LED Xmas tree lights for £5 from China. But if you sit back and look at the cost, it’s crazy. That’s before you been look at the CO2 output of getting it there.

Trump is right - if you can make it domestically, then it will be at a cleaner factory, better regulated workforce, boost jobs and the local economy and allow the USA to prosper again.

Detroit - some happened there. Let Japanese, Korean and European cars take a fair whack of the car industry away. Now it’s a no-go zone in down-town Detroit it’s so run down.

Onto LED bulbs..... similar here. A lot of folk are in poverty in some states. They can’t afford the additional costs of them. And they’re all from China. He wants to increase LED production in the USA first, so when they do implement the legislation, the USA benefits from it, not China. And, buying US LEDs cuts millions of tons of CO2 in terms of production and shipping.

He’s not daft Trump. Yeah, comes out with bizarre comments that aren’t needed, but his business acumen for the US is sound.

Bolsonaro's business acumen for Brazil could be seen as equally sound but the Amazon is still burning.
Trump has no interest whatsoever in any environmental benefits 're light bulbs. He's merely protecting US industry in the same way he tried to protect the fossil fuel industry and rolled back clean air and clean water legislation.
Returning to the light bulb situation the brief googling I did suggested environmental groups aren't happy with his decision. Maybe I didn't Google far enough.
Trump remains a domestic and global disaster though.

Re: light bulbs, I get the impression the legislation will come in, but not now.

You have to look at the whole life cycle of a product to assess the CO2 impact. When the U.K. were pushing the scrappage scheme years ago for cars, it was often highlighted that it was overall better for the environment if a 20 year old car continued to be used, rather than replaced by a Korean import.

There’s also the impact LED and similar products has on infrastructure investments for power producing. We have that issue in the UK right now, although it’s happened at the point where our generation is fairly clean and a good proportion renewable.

I would say Trump is a disaster - he was voted in and likely to receive a good number of votes again. I’ll let Americans decide if they think he is a disaster. Internationally he’s hit and miss. His stance with NATO and also North Korea are pretty good to be fair.
