Monk Bretton lad who did quite well in pop idol. On tonights celebrity chase attempting to win money for the Barnsley Hospice
spoiler alert The hospice are now 25k better off. Well done sam and the rest of the contestants, especially jimmy carr who went for the 82k high offer
Ann Widdecombe was well funny she and Bradley bounced off each other fantastically, good entertainment.
I know the lad. He's done very well for himself and carved out a good career in kids TV. Lovely kid he is also.
Most people from Barnsley who have done well for themselves always shout our Town out from the rooftops . I know a few have certain grudges against some of our celebrities but Imo they are always proud of coming from Barnsley and always shout our town up . Well done Sam .
Absolute travesty when he lost out to that lass from Glasgow. His "Mr Bojangles" and "Handbags and Gladrags" were sensational.
Apart from Parkinson - I remember seeing him interviewed once where he took the pyss out of the Barnsley accent and what he described as middle aged men in Barnsley shirts wishing they could get a game, clear he was ashamed to be from here, only ever seen in the prem league season, unlike Dickie Bird who does a tremendous amount for local charities.
Sam's a lovely kid, still a proud Barnsley lad. I was brought up in Monk Bretton and he's always bringing up where he's from. Totally different to how a certain Mr Gough went, another Monk Brettoner. Goughies in recent years reconnected but for over a decade he forgot where he came from. Goughie was royalty when he first played for England and took Martin Crowe's wicket on debut, he then became full of himself. Not who he was when he was growing up around the corner from me.
Tbf Charlie Williams used to take piss out of Tarn Accent but it were took the right way . For most part Parky never hid from where he came from and always mentioned his boyhood hero Skinner Normanton if Barnsley FC. IMO this thing about Barnsley celebrities dissing the Town is a myth tbh .
I like Sam Nixon, down to earth lad, didn't know Goughie although we went to the same school. I think the interviewer mentioned the premier league season and Parky mimicked the tarn folk saying eyup Parky, then went on to say something about middle aged men wearing Barnsley shirts hoping to get a game. It wasnt a humorous anecdote there was obvious dislike. Went right off him after that. I’ve met Charlie a couple of times in the Legends Suite, not seen Parky anywhere near nor using his fame to do any good In the town at all.
Agree Marlon. Used to watch all Parky's interviews and he always took the opportunity to show his affection and pride for the town. Even stating his hero was Skinner Normanton and managing to get him on his show. Some on here would knock him but how many of em slag the club or town off at every opportunity. Pot kettle black. Some comments quite peurile.
Cut it as a TV presenter with Mark - used to work in the bakery on Carlton Road that used to be Burkishaws butchers
