We were struggling in the Championship under Hecky.

    In a nutshell.....

After Christmas, eventually Hecky left and Morais joined.

The Club signed Pinnillos, Moore & McBurnie to help with a final push. McBurnie and Moore were in demand and relatively on the higher end of our budget. We went to a 4-3-3 formation.

My point here, is that our board did produce what was required at the time - it was just too late. Morais was questionable, but the signings weren’t. Although McB was signed prior technically, he had to re-sign the loan again.

What’s to say they won’t do the same again this time? Maybe they should have learnt from this so it wasn’t repeated......but the club has indicated they will make signings in January to boost the squad.

Ultimately we have been a selling club for years under Cryne, and nothing has changed. The board never said it would change though. The club has this policy to survive. We as fans were relatively happy when the new owners came in and said this, as we didn’t want to be bank-rolled and suffer massive damaging debt. We’ve been in administration before and don’t want it again.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in life or football. But come the end of the season, if our players have worked their socks off and if the club break-even again financially, then we should be sensible enough to see that they’ve done what was promised. Yeah, we might have fell short on signings. But the work ethic and potential is there.

We have to accept that we may be a yo-yo club for a few seasons. Most have been before establishing themselves in some way or another.

We may never know about what happened with Stendel. But ultimately, we were losing under him and it seemed after PNE that he was a beaten man. Murray certainly has got us playing better and we look more solid albeit the errors continue.

I still back the owners. They might have made a few mistakes, but genuinely have tried to make a difference.

That was an awful transfer window. We weakened the defenc by selling the captain and went down

Sure we signed two strikers but it wasn't enough because we weakened at the other end

    Who? Angus McDonald?

He wasn’t that good - and we all know something non-football related went off which is why he left.

They needed to back Daniel and didnt. Why on earth wait until January to put things right when they were told in the summer?

Do we all know that? I certainly don't know that. Just like I don't know anything else that comes out of the rumour mill.

We had been a selling club for years under cryne? Yes not saying we weren't difference is when cryne sold conor and winnall conor had 6 months left and told patrick he wanted to leave he would have left for nothing had we not sold him in Jan, winnall told the club he wanted to move to Wednesday and wouldnt be playing for barnsley after january. Patrick bought both these players with his own money. He also subsidised the accademy year on year.

This lot sold potts in the middle of a promotion campaign when he had 2 and a half years left and replaced him with no one, they sold lindsay and pinnock And then kieffer moore 4 days before the window shut and replaced him with a unfit player from what I read on here they have borrowed against the club so they dont spend their own money.

Possibly because the options were there? Either in quality or budget terms?

January transfer window will answer a lot of questions I reckon.

Maybe the options werent there but they're even less likely to be there come January surely?

None of which I have an issue with and the club had little choice.

The borrowed against the club bit has been discussed before. Likely in place to cover transfer fees that are paid in instalments. Common business practice.

    That’s why I said - we’ll soon see.

Things haven’t gone great yet - I accept that. But we’ve still got 30 games and a transfer window to go. And the squad we have are scoring and working their socks off. All is not lost, yet.

We all know that January will probably be too late. We are 5 points adrift now, could be 10-12 by January.

Thanks for this, nice to read a more positive post! The two thin linings in a very dark cloud for me are that despite an horrendous run we’re “only” 5 points off safety and I hope that the owners are sensible enough to learn from their mistakes and do their best to get us out of this mess in January.

The difference is two seasons ago we were just outside the bottom 3 when we got to January so there was a decent chance of staying up & from that point any competent manager would’ve kept us up with the additions of Moore & McBurnie.

This time round we could easily be 10 points adrift by January so it might be seen as a lost cause but more importantly how do we strengthen? Last time round it was obvious that we were desperately short up front but the rest of the team was ok. This time round we need a striker, we need full backs, we need centre backs. We don’t even know what system we’re buying for, if it’s Murray do we need wing backs? If it’s a new manager then full backs? If we’re going with 3 in midfield then we probably need another central midfielder. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

As for Stendel & Murray. I’m not convinced about Murray having us playing better. Yes we were awful against Preston, second half against Brentford & in the cup against Carlisle but we weren’t awful the rest of the time even though we had a weaker squad to pick from due to injuries.

I still think Leeds & Fulham are our best performances of the season although the West Brom one was also up there.

There’s no quick fix, the young players will only get better with games & will keep making errors regardless of who the manager is in my opinion.

That was an absolute catastrophe, we went down with the leagues most prolific striker, recruited an awful manager and set ourselves back....well at least 3 years maybe more, they still haven’t returned us to where we were when they came in

It’s fair to say the damage was already done. Like it might be this season.

The comparison between Patrick's tenure and the club's current owners is an interesting one.

Over the tenure of Patrick's ownership he donated over £1.2m to the club, wrote off over £6m of loans, personally underwrote the bank loans and only recouped a further £6.2m of loans on the sale of the club.

The club's current owners have decided to run the club with no external funding and the debt facility they have taken out is secured on the club.

One loved the club and had an emotional attachment. The current owners see the club purely for financial gain. Nice...

What makes you think both Wigan and Luton will go on a winning run? They both have won on in the last 6 and we have won more points than them over the last 5.

That’s the key - if these players keep developing and working hard, along with a couple of additions in January, we might be ok.

I’m not a happy clapper, but I can see potential in the team. The Stoke players today will be the same players at the end of the season - they won’t develop much more. Ours will. It’s just whether it happens quick enough..... we are scoring though.

Yup. I’m seeing a few dropping off, like you say.

We all thought Hull and Ipswich were buried last time around - but they pulled out of it.

We are likely to be a lot further adrift in January than we were under Hecky. Unless there is a miracle it will be too late by then.
