Fixture Change | Reds v Wednesday Club News Home clash with Sheffield Wednesday moves kick-off time. Continue reading on the official site...
Why are SYP incapable of policing a derby fixture at normal kick off times? How do Merseyside Police get on when Liverpool play Everton?
They seem to manage it at every other south Yorkshire club, for some reason they must deem Oakwell too much of a risk to police at 3pm. Bizarre. If folk are daft enough to cause trouble at a football match they're going to do it regardless the time of day.
We shouldn't be surprised our board want to spoil another of our bigger fixtures by giving in to SYP. What a stupid kick off time that is. No game in the UK ever kicks off at half 1 on a Saturday. Do they think 90 minutes is going to make a difference to those who want to drink or cause bother? They will just drink slightly quicker.
Terrible when the away game was 3pm!! The Leeds game was a Sunday dinner time and still had trouble, so it doesn't matter moving it, they should respect the majority of the fans who behave and leave it at 3pm!! At least it isn't 12/12.30 though, I hate those early one's! Let's hope sky don't move it again when they select games in the new year!
This happens every season for every South Yorkshire derby so I'm not surprised. I'm pretty sure it has been confirmed previously that it is a club decision and not decision made by SY Police.
Syp told me that they offer a lower policing cost by playing at safer times. Bfc it seems put profits over supporters as well as profits over points.
Yeah and it doesn't make sense anyway. If people want to cause bother or drink too much regardless of the time. So this match starts 90 minutes sooner so if someone planned to drink at 11 am and have a fight at midday, they will just drink at half nine and fight at half ten.
And it just gives more time for angry fans to get pissed after the games plus means they're in the town with innocent Saturday morning shoppers
It seems that way. I could understand it a few years ago but these days you can buy a pint with your breakfast in most pubs so it really does nothing to stop trouble makers getting drunk before the game.
