I just don't get why clubs have to pay any money to agents. Surely 'you can't sign my player unless I get a bung' (or words to that effect) is illegal. If not, it should be. The player should pay their own agent, no?

The club pays a players wages, a signing on fee, wines and fines them etc. It isn't a big leap to then offer to pay for their legal fees for a solicitor (agent) to look over their contract.

The club doesn't have to pay it but a player doesn't have to sign for them either and of one club is offering to pay their fees and another is they will go with the one who is.

I've no problem with the club paying the fees because there isn't really a way round it. What I do have a problem with is agents getting a percentage of the deal as that's a direct conflict of interest and isn't in the players best interest.

Agents provide good outcomes for some players and themselves. Think Darren Barnard wouldn’t agree. ( holding out for pie in the sky and ending up taking owt to pay the bills.) 10% max of fee at mo. Share should be much less. Much much less. Cripples a lot of clubs. Some refusing to negotiate with agents.

Do agents have to be qualified/ratified by anyone?

I wonder how much tax has been dodged on that little bundle?
