Just read Cavare could be moving shortly to Swiss team FC Sion as their transfer window doesn't shut until later in February. Dont know the reason why he has been frozen out after Middlesborough game but last season he was out first choice full back and in league 1 team of season. I remember him being sent off against Fulham a couple of years ago after Stevie Mallan into a fulham player whilst in a temper. Always been a problem with attitude but was a fans favourite and good player if not a natural full back.
Never rated him. Bombed forward then didn't know what to do when he got there. Left space in behind him. Losing his man in the box regularly and was a walking booking.
He got frozen out because he's **** at defending, and he couldn't be arsed tracking back after he ran forwards. It's tempting to remember his positive contributions because the guys that have played ahead of him since are just as bad, if not worse. But to be honest, Cavare is the one case where I'm with the gaffer. You can't tolerate a lack of effort, and that's very clearly what he showed, especially in that game against Stoke.
All the neutrals and opposition fans picked him out as a problem to their side last year. I'm a great fan of effort but there are situations where he could have been useful for parts of a game at least.
But that only works in American Football where you have an offensive team and a defensive team that you change as appropriate
Understand your point, and on a purely footballing basis you're absolutely right. He offers as much, if not more than the alternatives, which says as much about them as Cavare! But... What does it do to a group if a manager tolerates a lack of effort? I think Cavares exclusion has more to do with that than football. Whether you agree with that is a different question, I think a lot of fans will come to different verdicts.
Opposition fans will always pick out players who are going forward and aside of a goalkeeper almost never pick out a defender for his defensive qualities. I think everyone recognises his ability of going forward but it’s not these qualities keeping him out. I do agree however that when chasing a game there may be benefits of bringing him off the bench.
Unfortunately there have been various reports of him falling out with players and coaching staff, refusing to go to Plymouth etc etc, I would suspect it is his general attitude that is keeping him out. Which if the case I agree with(unless you’re Messi/Ronald esq).
We signed him because on trial for huddersfield in a pre season friendly he ripped us another bum hall . I cant fault his forward play and power .but deffenceily naive at times .but I wouldn't have wrote him off at times he could still be useful
Only on social media far as I can see. Nothing of the sort mentioned by the credible local media like Radio Sheffield, Barnsley Chronicle, Look North etc.
He's our best right back. By some distance. But I wouldn't play him. He can't be trusted. He won't do the things asked of him. Stendel kept trying with him then dropping him. Struber has decided not to even bother. I don't blame him.
