Although it true to say some of our jealous rivals from Swillsborough, Bellend Rd and Bumhole Lane have been know to refer to it as Jokewell. Absolutely uncalled for. Rarely has a chuckle been heard this year.
I don't know why but when I was a lad I used to think The Hawthorns was a brilliant name for a ground.
Scarborough's McCain stadium always made me hungry for some reason.. great bit of marketing. And they had a chippy outside.
You've been reading too much Tolkien. Some of our players are a bit elf-like though, so there could be something in it.
Some good names here....... https://www.eurosport.co.uk/all-sports/top-20-funny-stadium-names_sto4708143/story.shtml Plenty here too including the Wankdorf which is the favourite away trip for Young Boys https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/11-weirdest-stadium-names
Some Scottish grounds have fantastic names. Love Street Brockville Ibrox Tannadice Firhill Cathkin Park Somerset Park, which is nowhere near Somerset. And then some of them verge on the unpronounceable Pittodrie Cappielow
Always thought San Siro and Stade Velodrome sounded grand. Old Trafford sounds like a tacky tabloid nickname for a posh colonial colonel who died of diptheria at 13, while leading British troops in India.
Shrewsbury's Gay Meadow always sounded a bright, happy place, until they moved. New Meadow sounds nice enough, but doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
Cliftonville play at the wonderfully named Solitude! Might be a more appropriate name for our ‘Stadium’ next season.
