‘Volunteers’. They want people who are off work with no pay to go and do other work for free. If it’s a job that needs doing then they should pay them.

    Why?

The country is in desperate need of help and in times like this it’s the good in people that step up and help those in need!

I'm going to, if they pass the amendment to the bill to give me 80% of my normal income.
I only need to work a couple of hours a day rescheduling weddings for people & I'm not sitting on my arse if the Govt are going to help me. I had thought I'd have to get a paid job, but I think I'd be more use doing this.

Wow. One thing surely no one can fault the state on is the amount of financial help they’ve given to individuals and businesses through all this. They’re giving people the opportunity to give something back to society and help a bit.

Anybody signing up deserves the utmost respect. I have just 'enjoyed' 2 days off but back to it tomorrow. We have already lost 20% of our staff due to symptom or family member symptom so i guess unless i too become one of those i will be working 7 days a week in a couple of weeks time.
There was a huge volunteer element during the war, it's what we do in times of crisis.

Signed up. You just log on when you are available so can fit it in when you are free

It’s a good thing to be doing. My last day of work this Friday so I should be doing it. Got our youngest back from Uni for the foreseeable future though and he’s spleen-less so I’m ruling myself out on the grounds of keeping him as safe as possible.

True but it's just galling that they have cut the NHS to the bone and then they are wanting people to work for free to make up for the shortfall. I do a lot of volunteering myself for various charities so I'm not against the concept of it. I understand why charities can't pay as they simply don't have the money and the things wouldn't get done otherwise, the government asking people to work for them for free is a bit different to me though.

I’m guessing it’s aimed at those furloughed on 80% pay from the government or the self employed after the announcement today hopefully.

Great news if true. Faith in the people of this country may well have been restored.

Thought the application was clever . For example the date of birth was back to front for example . I'm guessing they did it that way to try and defeat bots or to stop it being spammed .

Heard nothing as of yet . If they do need to use the full 250,000 people the organisational administration needed would be off the scale to organise so many people .

I would love to volunteer, but sadly I’m 70 so don’t think they would accept me.
