Messed up with Subs today. But Ref is also partly to blame Made 4 subs today on 4 separate occasions Rules are 5 subs allowed but only on 3 seperate occasions 30 point deduction is punishment enough i reckon
And strike ref off list for a blatant breach of basic rules . It’s abart time they were held to account on the basic stuff .
I must say that I thought halftime subs didn’t count in that respect - since it doesn’t disrupt the game.
Apparently (dont quote me on this) but if both teams make a sub at Half Time it counts as 1. If only one team make a sub it dont count Thats what i just read on a page on Facebook which hundreds have said same.
I don’t know the rule but that makes absolutely no sense at all if anything it would be more sensible for it not to count if both teams made a sub at half time but it would be just really dumb to have a rule that changed depending on the opposition.
Note to self check rules before posting. It is correct if both teams make a substitution at half time it counts as one of the 3. If only one team does it is. It counted. Who thought that up Law 3 – The Players – Temporary amendment In summary: Each team will be permitted to use a maximum of five substitutes. To reduce disruption to the match, each team will have a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game; substitutions may also be made at half-time. If both teams make a substitution at the same time, this will count as one of the three opportunities for each team. Unused substitutions and opportunities are carried forward into extra time. Where competition rules allow an additional substitution in extra time, teams will each have one additional substitution opportunity; substitutions may also be made before the start of extra time and at half-time in extra time. https://www.fifa.com/who-we-are/new...emporarily-allowed-for-competition-organisers
Few from Twitter @EFL @BBCMOTD @GaryLineker please can somebody clear up my confusion please; how can Leeds United make 4 subs, 1 @ H/T & 3 @ other times during the game. When both Luton and Leeds made a substitution at the same time at half time which is classed as one of the 3 Both made a sub at half time. That counts as one then leeds made three more. New guidelines. 2 pts deduction. This is what I'm being told @andygoldstein05 Did Leeds break the rules tonight with subs. They had 3 occasions during the game and 1 at halftime. Luton made sub at half time also I believe that counts as one of the occasions if both make it at the same time
Actually, I'm reading it as half time is separate, but the both teams rule is saying that even if both teams make the sub it still counts. Hope so. a 2 point deduction from the QPR game would derail us
Actually I read the rule again and it’s badly worded but I don’t think the intention is to count half time subs what it means is if during the game both teams make a substitution it counts as a substitution for both sides I don’t think it applies to the half time rule Could be better written though
Having given it more thought the way I am reading it is The game can be stopped to make a substitution on 3 occasions by each side. If one side stops the game to make a substitution and the other side also makes one at the same time both sides use up a stoppage. Half time is a natural stoppage and so a substitution doesn’t count towards the 3. It. Doest matter if both sides make a change Neither us no Leeds broke any rules It’s badly worded though
I think the ambiguity lies with the third bullet point which, to avoid confusion, ought to specifically say that it refers to the three non-half time opportunities (which is what I believe it does refer to in practice).
"three opportunities to make substitutions during the game;...." I think 'during the game' is the key phrase here "....substitutions may also be made at half-time" 'also' is the key phrase here
just realised everyone else already posted this. The way I read that is that the half time subs don’t count. The next bullet point isn’t related. Just a clarification that even if the games stopped for one team, if the other team make a sub it counts for them too.
