they havent managed in years of trying to manage a suitable vaccine for the SARS virus. Its amazing how theyve managed to find one for this strain inside 6 months.

Why would you want a mandatory vaccination programme for something that has a 95%+ recovery rate?

Long-term health issues are the biggest concern. A study involving 120,000 Finnish children found an increased number developed type I diabetes in childhood depending on when the flu jab was administered - the increased risk of diabetes was found to be worse then the complications from flu in the baby was older than 2 months at first vaccination (if I read it right)

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1114674/

Yes it is not a vaccine, but it was the most obvious example of a long-term side effect.

Here are some of the side-effects of jabs. Its Australian, but 1/1 million infants develop Guillain-Barre syndrome after the flu jab. Roughly the same have anaphylaxis after Hepatitis B . A similar ratio with a COVID jab in the UK would see long-term effects on 60-70 people. 1 in 17000 children having the rotavirus jab develop intussusception (intestinal blockage) that can require surgery - that would be about 3-4000 cases in the UK at a similar ratio.

    https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/Articl...-of-diseases-and-the-side-effects-of-vaccines

SARS did mutate into a less lethal strain - as did MERS - so a vaccine became less urgent. I understand at least one is based on the MERS research.

That 5% of the UK population is around 3.2 million people. 1% is still 650,000. 20% of the UK are over 65, millions more have negative factors.

There is growing evidence of long term or even permanent damage to organs in people of all ages who have had the virus.

Something which was mentioned right at the beginning as a possibility or even probability, I mentioned it on here many times, it was ignored by many, now showing evidence of damage to lungs, heart, kidneys and liver even in people that were asymptomatic I believe. Certainly in many of those that had symptoms.

Obviously we can't lock down forever, but the last thing to do it just to allow the virus to run rampant. A vaccine is a necessity, but it needs to be properly tested.

A Spanish study released recently suggested that 50% of those admitted to hospital suffered neurological conditions as a result of COVID.

I'd hope many are eager to get back to some semblance of normality (though there do seem plenty who never really stopped) and it would seem the only ways to that are a natural deterioration in the virus (which we cant control or expect) or some form of vaccine or antiviral that greatly reduces the impact of symptoms at their most serious, and/or the long term knock ons.

But just looking at my close family, many of them have some form of medication for a chronic ailment or another. In the space of just a few months, I can't see how there have been rigorous tests to assess any issues raised from a new vaccine and the vast quantity of medications out there for so many diseases and illnesses.

As much as I'd love to, I'm not greeting this modest step forward as a panacea. It will take some time with many tests and trials to give me comfort that it might be safe and not exacerbate chronic conditions of those that are nearest and dearest.

So you want 100% of the population to be vaccination to protect 5%.. even those examples above a riddled with side effects.

I know its not nice to hear but people die. Its one of lifes guarantees. No one lives for ever.

Perhaps, rather than rely on the Government to stick something in our bodies that has, no long term testing, no long research into side effects, be it directly or through child birth we actually look after ourselves.

    Stop eating processed *****
Stop gorging on Greggs and takeaways cos its easier than cooking
Buy where you can fresh food if not frozen
Put down the mobile phones and the tablets
    Get out and move
Talk to real people not swiping down on facetwittergram for likes
Dont be scared of Germs and bacteria

That'll take care of a fair number of issues and reduce the figures down drastically... Not just with Covid but across the board and remove the pressure on the NHS treating the same.

so let me get this right, a SARS virus that the powers that be are still learning about are still understanding what cause sit and what damage it leads has a vaccine thats already safe?

It needs years of testing to get anywhere near safe.

And then it should only be necessary to protect the vulnerable like the flu jab.

From the polls You Gov have up today three quarters of people would take a vaccine and over half strongly support another complete lockdown.

Vaccine's have all but eradicated smallpox/polio/measles and tetanus from much of the world and should not be viewed with default suspicion - unless you're one of these people who gets their "facts" from facebook or twitter. Vaccine's follow a well worn path for a hundred years with lessons from previous trials, hence the main "ingredients" are well known with specific purposes - for example, Social Media expert love to cry - "they contain mercury", yeah the same as you get from eating a tin of Tuna, and its there to prevent bacteria growth. I don't think it matters how long you wait for some mysterious side effect to kick-in, some people will never listen to the experts, so what's the point?

Trust me, I’m far from an anti-vaxxer.

Vaccines have set tests though that evaluate the side-effects over short, medium and long term. They’re trying to ‘fast track’ this vaccine because this virus is affecting so many and crucially costing so much money.

The first Smallpox vaccine was Jenner's in 1796 (based on cowpox), but it was nearly 200 years before it was eradicated - with most of it coming after 1961.

Am also far from an anti-vaxxer, but rushing into it will just give those wackos more ammunition.

I don't think the vaccine should be mandatory, however, why are you worrying about the Government sticking something potentially dangerous into your body? I know it's not nice to hear but people die. It's one of life's guarantees. No one lives for ever. etc. etc.

I’m guessing anyone who objects to vaccines doesn’t drink, because that’s just putting poison in your body and paying for the privilege.

Because 5% of everyone is 50 million people? And if it’s allowed just to linger around for another 2 years getting to that point we’ll be shooting each other with cross bows for the last fray bentos pie in the food distribution zone.

Smallpox was an inoculation rather than a vaccine initially

Sars didn't really impact the world-over though like this clearly has. As a consequence it's not surprising that so much money and resources has been thrown into finding a speedy vaccine.
