I had a Barnsley T-shirt on up in Grassington on Friday & a guy came up to me & said he has as WBA fan & said how well we'd played against them & wasn't surprised we beat Brentford, but thanks anyway.

Sugardaddy clubs are the pits. I wouldn't want Wigan to disappear, but the fans have had a damn good ride on someone else's money. Time for a reality check.

Maybe. Although he made racist & antisemitic comments the guy who railroaded them was basically a good bloke.

I'm 70-80% expecting that the appeal will be withdrawn in a couple of days.

It has little prospects of success but is being used as a stalking horse.

I also fear for Wigan's future.

I also expect at least two other clubs to start on -12, depending on rescue packages.

It's going to be *very* interesting next year folks.

I did wonder about an eleventh hour withdrawal. As the club only had seven days to lodge an appeal and only a £5000 up front bond for doing so, I think they did so to allow any potential new owner the opportunity to appeal if they were so mindful. As it looks increasingly unlikely that they will have a buyer in place by then, if the rumoured half million legal costs are anything like, they'll pull the plug unless there's something we don't know that gives them a genuine chance of success.

Latest statement from the administrator today says there won’t be any more comms from them till Saturday, after the appeal has been heard. I’ll be surprised if they pull out now. Probably incurred the legal costs already.

Yes was just going to say, they’d have had to have paid already at this point so they won’t withdraw now I wouldn’t think.

What I don’t get is how they can appeal the points deduction when they have not yet found a buyer. Conceivably they could win the appeal, not find a buyer and be wound up like Bury. If they win they might increase their chances of finding a buyer because of the extra income but if the business model for a club there is broken they’re still looking for someone prepared to put a lot of money into a club in a non-football town, pay the football debts in full and then likely lose money in the future aren’t they?

I’m fairly sure they can’t pull out now without incurring the costs so it has to go ahead. I still don’t see the benefit to Wigan even if they win. Unless a new buyer is happy to put in around £20 million over the next 2 years and demonstrate to the EFL they have the funds to do that they can’t start next season. Drop to L1 sell the high earners get the cash and a reduced wage bill and the club is more viable. And much more likely to start the season.

Also at the moment they need cash this month if I was buying the club I would want to know which league we are playing in before signing anything.
Mind you if I was buying Wigan I’d hope the EFL would fail me on the grounds anyone who wanted to clearly wasn’t a fit and proper person to run a football club

Ha! Yes, like Catch 22. You have to be a fit and proper person to buy Wigan but you’d have to be insane to want to do that. If you’re insane you can’t be a fit and proper person (although I bet insanity doesn’t rule you out according to the EFL).
Shame if they can’t withdraw their appeal.

They should've been forced to commit to an appeal or not before the season finished, rather than being able to sit on it for three weeks.

If I were a Wigan fan, I think I'd prefer to go into League 1. Much more realistic to operate sustainably in that league, and if they find an owner and avoid deductions next season, then no reason why they can't avoid back to back relegations.
