So Wednesday get points deducted next season because the season is all done and dusted. And due to the unfortunate timing the verdict of the case against them it means points cannot be deducted because the season is finished. So therefore Wigan’s appeal result will unfortunately be too late because the seasons finished? Surely the best outcome would be ok Wigan you win but it’s too late because the season has finished, therefore play in league one (more likelyhood of winning games and attracting fans because if you’re so big and well supported you should have no problem getting reasonable attendances such as Sunderland , Portsmouth and Ipswich ) AND here’s the money that Barnsley would be attempting to sue the EFL for if we relegated them (a few million presumably?) I don’t think many clubs (maybe Charlton,Bolton or Bury) would begrudge giving them a helping hand for at least the fans sake? I understand it may form some kind of precedent but it’s takes them long enough to decide the result anyway so why not add a caveat that when clubs go into administration to decide whether or not to help clubs out if they do drop a league due to deductions? The main thing is if the EFL can hide behind the season being completed in one case surely it can’t fair to relegate us ? It’s either done or not ?
Had Wigan stayed up with enough points , then they wasn’t even going to appeal .But they get two bites at cherry now with appealing . Be a right kick in the face for us and all other well run clubs if they relegate us
Can't see us being relegated even if Wigan win - league will have to have an extra team for a season otherwise the Wensdeahhhh decision looks foolish.
It’s a disgrace. The EFL know that. Too scared of Wednesday. But probably not Wigan? Conway’s warning letter last month set the tone - he got in first and the fired the first shot, which was the right thing to do. For all the issues we’ve had, I can’t fault the proactive approach the board has had to this ‘farce’.....
Agree, but the cynic in me says, behind the scenes heads have come together and in no way will they allow little old Barnsley to stand up to them and get justice done.
I'm 99% confident that we will be fine. The 1% is a niggling worry that we will be screwed. Not enough to give me sleepless nights, but Tuesday will be a bit nervy. Obviously I want the Wigan appeal to fail, but there is a very small part of me that would love to see if Conway is all bluster or not. I'd rather we didn't have to pay the price of relegation to find that out, but still...
That’s not something the independent commission are able to do... The options are points deduction stays, gets removed or gets reduced. They simply don’t have the power to adjust how many teams are in the league.
I can see why Wigan weren't going to spend thousands on an appeal - not much difference between finishing mid-table-ish and being fourth from the bottom. Barnsley's end of season form must have come as a bit of a shock! What the Wigan fans seem not to have grasped is that their biggest problem is the fact that their club is about to be relegated but rather it's about to fold up. Spending money on an appeal is like a householder repairing his roof just as his house is about to disappear down a fkn great big sink hole! my personal view - Wigan will be relegated.
No chance of it. If that happened then Charlton would be on to it wanting the same re the Wendy’s situation
I'm hoping that Charlton, with the support of other clubs, go ahead and make a legal challenge. If the authorities start to face legal action then they might even start to do their jobs properly. They might not win but its about time that clubs started to challenge decisions and make life a bit more difficult for those in power.
If I understand it right, Wigan can get a reduction of the 12pts, IF that is the case then I think a 9pt reduction will be the outcome of the appeal due to Covid-19.
I’m with you, it’s a load of codswallop. They’re in the last round having been hammered(spent beyond their means for ages) all fight. This is their haymaker, it either lands(pillocks spineless dumb dumbs into an inconsistent decision), or misses like the rest of their financial decisions of late.
