What frustrates me is venture capitalists deciding how we’re going to play, and the only way we’re going to play.
I don’t understand. What’s St. Pauli got to do with it? You think I follow them because they play a high press?
Good interview that, open and optimistic. My piss isn’t boiling but ... not seen anyone in a red shirt excite in the way Hammill used to since we started with the rock and roll football. Hope those times have not gone for good.
I'm not a fan of the high press - whether it's from an Austrian, German or Alien or whatever. It seems to tire us out and we become vulnerable to late goals. Edit: although at the back end of last season we scored in the 92nd and 94th minute so perhaps I know **** all.
To play this style, you need young and fit players, which we have in abundance. I believe the problem is the number of misplaced passes. We give the ball away far too often, which probably adds another 50% of excess running about.
I think the sides mentioned on this thread who play the high press are generally very good. But, does this mean they are very good because they play the high press or that they play the high press because they are very good? You don't get many sides scrapping for their lives at the bottom of the league pressing high up the pitch?
With young players the press is the best way to go. Sit back and we just won't create enough chances. But must admit I'm not sure what the board see in the French bloke. His record is patchy to say the very least. That German chap looks a lot more impressive. Richard
I agree he’ll be a good un but different not beating a man, bombing down the wing cut inside and curl in to the top corner, sorry drifted back in to a repeat wet dream. Styles is all clever touches and vision. Not the adrenalin rush / wet dream you get from a proper winger
Have to say with the players we have in our squad dropping deep & catching teams on the counter attack, ala Hecky style may work better. That said, strategy has worked the last couple of years & not going to throw my dummy out over that. I know there were critics of last night's performance, but we cleared the ball long, but fairly accurately when needed (usually out to wing backs) & used pace rather than brawn. When they went down to 10 they get men beyind the ball & we had less we could throw as them, as we don't have that guy with the hairy ring piece.
Maybe because you’re a Barnsley fan displaying a German club’s badge but you’re anti the principle of another German coach at Barnsley?
