None. That season was something special and had everything from youth to experienced pros who had been promoted out of the championship. As good as we have been this season, I wouldn’t swap any (yet) for that promotion team.
Disagree. Woodrow needs a Wilko now and Super John wouldn't have got us up without him. Jovo was in and out. Shez and Redders were the main 2. No contest.
Would Woodrow have been as good of a strike partner for Hendrie ? Plus any of the 3 you mentioned in front of sheridan aswell
He was mate, but still played 31 times. It’s very difficult to dislodge anyone from that team because it was just that - a team. Agree on Wilko
Agree 100% Sheridan also was so under rated at the time. If you ask any of the ex pros who played in that squad who they thought didn’t get the credit he deserved then it was stumpy. Fantastic player with a wand of a left foot. Put a foot in when needed. For every Hendrie that needed Wilko Sheridan allowed Redders to do what Redders did best without getting in the limelight.
I've personally heard Redders say (bare in mind he had 257 clubs and played 1000+ league ganes) that Shez is the best he played with.
None. But then my Barnsley 11 from my time watching us only has in Hignett and Hourihane who weren't part of our Premier League squad.
all of our squad would have appreciated bigger shorts, do not know how some of them play in ones they got, reminds me of the struggle in P E with a pair on from lost property
The current side, decent as it is, would be beaten comfortably by the 1996-97 team. However, the average age of the teams needs to be taken into account. I think that once the current team are all in their prime, they'll mostly be Premier League and top Championship players. Unfortunately, it's not that likely they'll all be lining up together in the same team. Especially not for Barnsley.
Football moves on over time. Our current squad and style of play would probably walk the first division in the fifties for instance. I think they would also probably best the 96/7 team, but there might not be much in it.
