Lovely innings by Root and a few others like Bairstow and Lawrence after the openers flopped. With the weather in Galle over the next three days they might have to declare overnight to have a good enough chance of winning.

Agree, though I never warmed to Muralitharan. I think in todays world he may have faced a lot of bans for an illegal action. Been lucky enough to see Sangakarra a few times at Surrey and even in the twilight of his career, you can still see a true great and world class player. Very few of them around these days.

And agree on Vaas too, he was hugely underrated as a bowler, probably because Muralitharan took the limelight.

It was more just to tell everyone I got the former world number 1 and England Captain out. :)

    But as you've asked.

It was a lovely summers evening at Sheffield United Cricket ground. The scene was set for a huge t20 game between Sheffield Collegiate and Elsecar. The wicket was fast and bouncy and SC won the toss and batted first.

I opened the bowling and got an early wicket in my first 2 overs. Root batted at 3 so I only bowled a few balls at him before being brought off to bowl at the death.

By the time I came back on, Root was on 74 after taking the spinners to all parts.

First Ball, I bowled him a bouncer, which was top edged to square leg, and former Yorkshire and Somerset player Ian Swallow caught it. The amazing part of the catch is Ian only has 1 and a half hands, having lost half a hand in a Washing machine accident some 20 years before.

We ended up losing anyway, but everytime Root scores a 100 for England, I change my Profile Cover to the Scoresheet (For a laugh I might add). I'd do that again now but I've been banned from facebook for 3 days for calling an American a crackpot, after she said it was ANTIFA who stormed the capitol. The world has indeed gone mad.

Correct me if I am wrong but the highlights are not on terrestrial tv for this series are they? I can’t access my sky sports here in Spain so it’s disappointing missing out on seeing this. Seems a bit one sided though

Thanks but I’d be happy with just the highlights. I’ll give that a try tomorrow morning though, at least to see if I can catch the end of the day’s play.

Unfortunately I dont think they are on terrestrial so you need to find a way to watch Sky sports - cant you do something with a VPN?

Ah Elsecar cricket club. Spent many a lazy day on Armroyd Lane in the 70s/80s watching cricket before moving down south . The Swallows were in ascendence then and I think Ian still plays a bit doesn't he ?

Speaking of T20 sloggers I've just watched the highlights in disbelief to see Sri Lanka's last man on the first day of a Test with 135 on the board get bowled reverse sweeping.
Absolutely unbelievable. Cricket at every level is now blighted with ramp shots, reverse sweeps and the like played by eejits who can't even muster a decent forward defensive.

Windscribe is pretty decent - you can try it free - you get a reasonable amout of free data and can select a UK server - if you pay you get a lot more of course but for an initial trial it might be worth a look. I used it a bit when I needed to be outside the UK for any reason. I never tried the UK connection though as I setup a VPN on my home work business line allowing me to connect in to equipment when I am travelling - or conveniently want to download say from iplayer. Long term if you have a UK home with a broadband line it might be worth you looking at switching to a fixed ip address and setting up a VPN yourself - its not so hard to do if you have the right router (though they obviously cost more than the free ones you tend to get )

Before the pandemic hit, Ian used to occasionally appear for our 6 a side game, not bad for a man of his age! Someone said that he was in the team that won the walking football championships in England. No idea if true but he’s got decent technique, I’ll give him that.

I've just subscribed to NordVPN after reading a few recommendations and surfing some of the YouTube videos about it. I've paid 60 euros for a 12 month subscription obviously hoping to get the two things I lost on 1 Jan - Sky Sports and Prime Video. If I can fool the system into thinking I am in the UK all should be well....right?

Well, it's not. Prime works so ok that's half of it but I am less bothered about that to be honest. When I logged onto my Sky account all was going well until I got to the bit where it would play the cricket highlights but NO! Can't access in my temporary foreign location. I spoke to the help desk and they said they are "working to resolve that issue". Obviously no forecast when that resolution might be. So what next? Cancel NordVPN and try another? I just knew this wouldn't be easy
