What's your thoughts on Chaplin who hasn't had to settle into a new country during a pandemic and been with us 18 months?

Morris looks like he’s got a bit of pace and power on the left so for me we need to bring someone in who can offer the same on the right hand side of Woodrow.

I'm afraid he's out of his depth too. Cheeky little monkey that he is.

I agree, not a bad player to have on the bench though when we can strengthen the front line.

We need at least one natural goalscorer and one creative player to be signed before the window closes, sadly I don't think it will happen. Once again we've signed players in the hope that in the next three years they'll have improved to a level that will bring interest from other teams and we can then sell at a profit.
In 1996 Danny Wilson saw something special was possible if the club took a chance he persuaded John Dennis to take that chance and John Hendrie was signed Patrick Cryne saw a similar possibility with the signing of Adam Hammil and persuaded a reluctant Lee Johnson that he'd make the difference he did. Can anyone hand on heart see the current board taking such a chance and I don't mean spending stupid money I mean just seizing an opportunity taking a chance that could make a real difference to a season. Personally I can't see them ever doing it because I just don't think it's within their make up to speculate to accumulate, they are just happy to buy cheap and sell on and hope to make a profit.
I seriously think they saw John Stones make a big money move that benefited Barnsley FC and thought it would be easy to repeat sadly as we all know the John Stones level of player only happen once or twice in a generation for a club like Barnsley.
I just think the boards main priority is buying players to sell at a profit in the future not buying players to improve league position I think league position is secondary and always will be.

The board took a chance on Matty James. That didn’t work out too badly.

I’m not sure hendrie like signing could ever happen these days. Too many championship clubs willing to pay 20k+/week, as well as regular football.

I think Morris will improve our front line, but agree we need to find the right player to play up front with or just behind him and Woodrow. Problem is, we pick forwards based on what they do without the ball, rather than what they do with it.

If we don’t bring anyone in, I’d try styles or odour on the left of the front three.

We miss Brown. Yes he's not pulling up any trees at Stoke, but he was perfect for us and complimented Woodrow.

    Years left on his contract.

    Sold.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I'd like us to start with Frieser, Morris and Adeboyejo up front. Just as an experiment. Use the cup game and see how it goes.

Chaplin and Woodrow are both grafters, but it's not quite happening for them (ignoring Woodrow's penalties). Rest them both this weekend. Woodrow in particular looks like he needs a breather.

Agreed, mainly because he crossed the ball, ask Chaplin.

I wonder how much influence Struber had in that one. He’s probably on a decent wage as well

Agree with you actually. There is something about Woodrow's demeanour which says 'knackered'. He could do with a couple of weeks off. It might benefit us more if he misses a few games and is available fresher for the run-in. Trouble is with the 'high-press' is that we burn out our strikers after 60 mins and they need to be substituted.

We seem to have a lot of players that play around the fringes of ‘a striker’. They work hard around the edge of the final third, down the flanks etc. We have one striker who plays central. We rarely get on the end of anything in the 6 Yarder or create problems from corners. I think Morris is a good addition but is another player key to the build up and not key to a finish. We arent creating chances right now so we have to look at changing out Chaplin from the start. He has done it with Frieser and i see the same with Chaplin. Adebeyojo is hot and cold. Sometimes looks like he can cause defenders problems other times he traps a ball further than i can kick it. If we had a solid defence we could get away with it for a patch but we have a leaky defence. No matter how much was can talk about improvement, the stats say we ship goals consistently especially from set pieces. Hopefully kitching helps here. But for me we are still missing a nother goal scorer. With Tomas and a few kids going out, James going out we clearly have made some space. Maybe a couple more ins and outs needed to truly feel we have stepped forward in the window.
