as we are happy to play the speculative ball out of defence on a frequentt basis, how about our strikers take defenders on in the box on a similar basis? Maybe we can draw a pen or beat a player to get a clear cut chance. At the moment our apparent desire to stop at the box and pass backwards, sideways, or thread through a needle, confuses me. How about trying a dribble in the box that takes a defender out or draws a pen? In the scheme of percentage play, surely this could be just as effective as trying to walk it in or blasting from distance. Just a thought, attackers attack!
I think we have the same problem as Liverpool at the minute. It isn't chance creation that's the reason we aren't scoring we're taking the wrong option at the wrong time. Passing when we should shoot and shooting when we should pass. Playing it off to the left when we should play it through to the right. Not looking up when coming back infield or playing the ball across the box. We rush too much. Woodrow has shanked or pulled the ball loads this season. Chaplin has too.
The only season I can recall this many penalties was the premiership promotion year. And we're only half way through!
I was happy to ignore the point made about penalties and take a general view that we don't take the right options in and around the box. That might lead to more penalties who knows? One might be a bit greedy. After all it is Friday and Pizza and Chicken strips are on the menu.
I was thinking the 1999/2000 campaign. Barnard and Hignett scored a few that year. But yeah, we've had an incredible amount this year. About four year's worth!
I missed that season, though I do vaguely recall Barnard had a season where he got a tonne of goals. By Barnsley standards, its about 14 years worth!
