Apparently been paying for all away travel and accommodation for the squad this season and also funded the pre-season training camp.

Fair play to him if true. Wonder if he feels a bit guilty about the part he played in their financial troubles!

I doubt it. He's likely generated more money than anyone else through all the exposure and he's just a tiny blip on their financial problems. Sky love WRDCFC.

Don't say this out loud but he's actually doing a decent job at Derby. Thinking of how challenging it's been for us getting players up to speed, with all their last minute signings they should be rock bottom of the league. Impressive win at the weekend too. He's a wayward character for sure but he's not as bad as some of the hatred that goes his way.

Nice little tax write off for Wayne, however I do think that will have been at the back of his mind on this. He wants to be a manager and has gone the extra 100 miles on this.
Derby are a headcase and if this is true then the book needs to be thrown at them. The LMA and PFA can't allow such actions to become common place.

Yeah I hate to admit it, but he's doing a good job. They're doing far better than I expected.

And while I get what you mean about him bringing in the exposure - he would have done that if he was paid half as much as he is, too.

I generally don't get mad about players and managers salaries, but he's paid so much at a club that clearly just can't afford it. Even if as reported that came with a significant sponsorship, it's still a lot of money.

But when he was a player wasnt his salary paid seperately by 32-RED - That was how they got round the FFP rules when they signed him- not idea what the deal is now he doesnt play anymore but I cant for one minute think that Derby's financial woes are anything to do with what he is paid by the club. The blame for that lies above his head
Must admit I am not a fan of the guy but I cant fault what he has done as a manager at Derby

If I'm remembering right (and if what was reported was true) he was paid by Derby, but his signing came with a significant sponsorship bonus from 32 Red as a "Star Player Clause" or something, which included him wearing the 32 shirt.

But he was paid by the club. Him getting paid by 32 Red would have had issues with third party ownership I believe.

Just remembered also that they supposedly got around FFP rules by making him a coach also

That isn’t actually accurate. It was a rumour that went round but was debunked.

I put the win solely down to Brad knocking the wind out of their sails the match before!!

I did note that the "spud faced youngster" described Derby County as "MASSIVE" in my paper yesterday.

so next season there will in all probability be a MASSIVE v MASSIVE Massive fixture. Advanced sales will be in the mega millions.

IIRC the original plan was that but the EFL confirmed it was against the rules. A player coach has 100% of his wages taken into account.

Some aspects of his character (as reported) are somewhat less than desirable. But as a football man he is top quality. There can't really be any way he is doing this job for the money, and it was interesting that in the middle of the survival battle last season he said that he would stay whether they avoided relegation of not. Of course the administrators may take a view as to whether his departure needs to be negotiated.

Or is it a dodgy way for 32 red to finance the club by dodgy means?

I assume you mean 32 Red?

Not really sure how that adds up though.

There was nothing dodgy about 32 Red being involved in the Rooney transfer to Derby.

Derby County negotiated a contract that would unlock an additional amount of funds should they sign a player that both parties deemed high profile or ‘Hollywood’, however you want to word it. It makes complete sense to me. Sponsoring Derby is worth x amount with the current squad over three years but if we bring in someone of stat quality it will be worth x. No different to some of the promotion clauses that will be in sponsorship contracts (and probably relegation ones too).

Never understood the meltdown on that. When Boro and Preston complained they were aiming it at the wrong people - their Commercial Director needed to explain why they didn’t do the same.

Not worked out well for them. No way could they afford his wages therefore he shouldn't have been signed.

That's a completely different discussion though. Don't think anyone is disputing that.
