Getting the go ahead for PL & Champ. From January, subject to case-by-case approval. Would the club invest in a safe standing area? Stating the bleedin' obvious, but something tied in with redevelopment of the West Stand would make sense, but well.....y'know....
As it seems, many problems will be. Growing increasingly concerned with how this Mexican stand-off is gonna pan out
Yeah difficult to see a way out. The ground either decays around is and is never improved. The current owners improve it despite not owning it. We leave Oakwell and ground share. Whether temp or permanent. - seems increasingly likely. We build a new ground. - seems unlikely against a backdrop of inflation.
Unfortunately I can see oakwell becoming as much of a hindrance to Barnsley as Odsal has been to Bradford Bulls rugby league
Stop you right there. It's a no. As others have said, there'll be zero major investment in the stadium untill the ownership situation is sorted.
No chance they’ll invest in anything. Scoreboard doesn’t even work. Can see the ground falling into decay sadly.
Not sadly for me, I hope we move asap. Oakwell is fast becoming (has already become?) an embarrassment. No time for sentimentality.
I sometimes pine for the halcyon days of standing on the corner of Ponty and West (to give it it's American localisation) but realistically I'm not sure if my knees would take 90+ minutes of standing even if they did re-locate my favourite red crash barrier. Ponty and West would have been an ace name for a social club on the corner, thinking about it. Sorry, slow day at work.
I think it's far from an embarrassment. Many fans of other teams love coming to oakwell. Loads mention it as their favourite away day, and a good old fashioned but modernish development. The bit that is embarrassing (my opinion) which many of our home fans are against redevelopment, is the west stand. I do however, get the sentiment.... But as alluded to, zero will change whilst ownership is resolved
The embarrassing bit for me is: We have two sides of the stadium we can't fill on safety grounds The awful red wall that greets you as you walk down to the ground No reason for anyone to go the ground and spend any time or money other than on matchdays (proper social club would be a start) It looks tinpot (it really does), rubbish advertising hoardings, tHe BiG sCrEeN, even the dugouts are worse than some Sunday league teams The more I think about Oakwell, the more it gets me down. I get that most people look on Oakwell with reverence and it holds a load of memories (it does for me too), but it either needs an extraordinary amount of money spending on it or we need to move.
Looks fecking awful doesn't it, will ruin all the nice stadiums that's being built if they go back to this. Imagine the new White Hart Lane covered in barriers. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...hip-clubs-to-trial-safe-standing-from-january
I don't want us to move from Oakwell but it needs serious cash spent to get up to date. Our newest stand that was built to be split for over 5000 is now for 4000 people and not split. It was noticeable at the weekend with the sun shining on the North Stand just how many seats have been replaced so it looks patchy alongside thousands of really faded seats. The West Stand needs bulldozing even if a new stand isn't built there because Oakwell would look better three sided. Look at MK Dons who have never played in the top two leagues..... https://www.stadiummk.com/ https://populous.com/project/stadiummk It can do music concerts, has corners filled in, multiple scoreboards, padded seats, on site hotel and many more features.
