Quote blaming defensive errors for the loss: "Jack (Payne) didn’t go with the runner to stop the cross to get the ball to the back post. Then Adam Chicksen’s standing square on instead of opening his body and the boy’s got above him with the header. “The second goal looks good play but it’s not, it’s a weak shot. Richard (O’Donnell) has got a hand to it but he’s got to do better." Sounds like sour grapes - but looking at the replay - he has a point about the first goal - his defender stayed put facing Thiam, and should have tracked Mowatt to try to stop the cross. Second goal the build up and approach play was fantastic, and maybe Moore's shot might have been saved by a better goalkeeper - it wasn't really a shot - just being there at the right time. No comment on the quality of our play. Well - the mark of a good team is that they punish the weaknesses of their opponents - and that's what happened. It will do our confidence no harm at all - but we will face sterner tests than Bradford provided for us.
I listened to the commentary on pulse very Bradford bias (didn’t expect anything different), however, they reckoned that Bradford were the better side and were unlucky claiming our goals were from breaks from their attacks?
No they were second best. For the first 20 minutes they matched us possibly - it was scrappy. After the goals they weren't really in although had a brief spell of pressure at the beginning of the secondhalf
I think they looked most likely to score in first 20 minutes. After that we could have kept playing till this morning & they wouldn't have had a shot on target. tHey were absolutely outclassed. We had a couple of Bradford mates with us in the pub before & after the game & they were of the same opinion.
Yes they started at 100 miles an hour and we looked like we could be caught cold. Our goal was slightly against the run of play but thereafter the two teams looked a couple of divisions apart.
It's a poor manager who publicly lists individual "errors" in an attempt to deflect criticism. Fact is, Bradford were second best all over the park and could have easily lost by 5 or 6.
The Sky highlights tells it all. I don’t think there is one clip showing the Bradford strikers - it’s all Barnsley goals and Barnsley misses. Again...... we should have scored at least five.
They pressed very high and incredible pace in the opening 20 minutes. I can only assume they came to catch us cold at the start and try and get a goal. We were forces into going long and had they got a goal who knows how it would have turned out. They didnt though, and that pace can not be kept up for long. Once we got a hold of the ball and moved it about they had no answer. Was only going to be one winner, even agasint the wind 2nd half we looked the more likely to score and we did.
Blaming the keeper for the Moore one is just silly. At that distance you just throw your hand at the ball really, on another day it doesn't go in. More bad luck than bad keeping for me.
It’s very unusual for a goal to be scored without an error from the defending side somewhere too, nearly every girl someone could have done better or something different
In real time that close there’s not much reaction time for the keeper it looked like he could of done better as he got a hand to it and there wasn’t much pace in the shot but I think it was a case of the ball just hit him instead of he moved to save the ball. Poor to criticise him publicly he couldn’t of done much else differently than what he did.
He's right with what he said. First goal the cross should have been blocked and the keeper should be commanding his own six yard box by coming to grab the ball. The second goal they let us move the ball around with ease before we scored another baby range goal the keeper should have done better with. That said though the keeper kept it down to three with a couple of fine saves.
In fairness as an opposition Manager he is right to focus on what they could have done differently to stop the goals, but don’t agree with naming and shaming publicity.
Bradford were second best and remember we had two in the middle we dominated. The gap grew as teh game progressed and at the end if we hadn't made all the 'individual errors' in front of goal from Thiam, Adebeyojo, Mowat free kick, cut backs behind our attackers instead of across the 6 yarder, McGeehans shots on target we could have had 8
First 20 minutes we were poor, the next 70 was as good as it gets for a league 1 team. If we play like that the rest of the season we will be champions.
