Thats a cracking memory Mark!!! Can't remember the game but was probably there although not in The Group Promenade!!!
I thought you meant Wilson's 2nd season, that 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield was grim viewing. Shortly after that we went out and bought de Zeeuw and the following season was our promotion season.
Christ, I'd forgotten about that one. I was at that game as a 12/13 year old. I remember they played you'll never walk alone before the game at I genuinely thought we were going to win and stay up. Emotional day.
I was at the Blackburn one. Pretty sure it was 5-0 at half time. We were locked in & could not leave. One of the last matches I went to with my ex wife...
I would go for Norwich home in 2002, Man City away in the FA Cup under Flitcroft, and losing 4-1 away at Macclesfield in the league cup about 2002 Also Cardiff in the FA Cup semi final in 2008 - a golden opportunity to win the FA Cup - that’s AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BARNSLEY TO WIN THE FA CUP- absolutely tossed away with a limp performance.
We were supposed to play their supporters club at football, but summat happened so we spent the afternoon in Oswaldtwistle and got blathered. Bloke driving our minibus was a games teacher at Willowgarth, he was a Blackburn fan.
In over 60 years as a fan there have been too many to single out any one performance, but any game with 7-0 in the score line has to come close.
Home game v Birmingham City, 02 September 1995. We lost 5-0. Steve Claridge was playing for them. It remains to this day the only Reds match that I have left before the final whistle. Even my own high tolerance levels for watching garbage were exceeded that day!
There are many fans on here that have seen it all from division 4 to the premier league - I've only been supporting them since about 2001/2 and it's hilarious how many games are coming up that I've attended. The worst have been mentioned, my personal favourite being the loss at altrincham after 7 straight league defeats, bottom of league 1, pissing rain on an open terrace in November. Horrific. Some that haven't been mentioned: Either of the two home defeats to Fleetwood in 14/15 and 15/16, just utterly abysmal from all involved. The 7-0 loss at West Brom end of 06/07. One of our many embarrassing performances live on Sky and no-one looked remotely interested other than Kevin Phillips. The 3-5 loss to Ipswich, also on Sky, under Keef. Went into it with a chance to go 6th against a side who'd lost their last 7. We went 2 nil up, then after half time decided to let them arsehole us. Then we lost Butterfield, Davies, drinkwater etc. Soon after and the rest is history.
That was my first match! Mental that I ever came back, cant be many with a worse first match story. It was magical at the time though as a naive 10 year old. Watson sent off early on I think.
Was that the game where we had a good start to the season and could have gone top with victory, but blew it spectacularly?
Ive already said that Jimbo about it being big Eric, in an earlier reply. As for that 0-5 debacle against Birmingham, it didn't help that Claridge was diving and cheating at every opportunity. The ref bought it though and gave them a pen from it and sent Watson off. And yes we had started that season well and did have a few chances of going top.
My worst game is probably is an LDV Vans Trophy match against Bury. It was during the administration era I think, and we lost 1-0 after a hopeless and depressing performance. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/2429947.stm
Also the 2-0 cup defeat at Bury when Gordon Owen scored a cracking headed own goal. Bucketed it down all night and I got kicked up the arse leaving the ground.
As well as that Ldv cup loss at Bury in 2002, didnt we also get hammered 4-1 after extra time in the Lg cup at Macclesfield ?.
