There's some sh*t in this side but nonetheless, thoroughly enjoyed watching them!

3 centre halves though that could win a ******* header. All on the back row.

It's a picture from Julian Broddle's latest book. Didn't even know he'd written one :) Alas, we get a mention and he's on FB apparently.

True my son, true! Carl Tiler would probably have been as good as Macca had he stayed but was simply too good for us at that time. £1.4m he went for I think and he paid for the East Stand.

David Currie would be worth 20million. But he’d sign for Burnley and be ****.

End up back with us for 3m and be even shitter.

Taking transfer fee inflation into account, that isn't far off what actually happened.

Plenty enough talent that Allan Clarke should never in a million years have ended up getting himself sacked with those players at his disposal. Even if the second incarnation of Ian Banks was a bit of a disappointment, to put it mildly.

This was when Currie and Banksy came back for a short spell later in their careers, both were past it and just dicked around! Carl Tiler was the young class-act on here and Robbo just never made it despite his obvious talent, I did like him. Agnew had glass shins but could pass and play when he wanted to but hated being tackled. McGugan was solid as a rock and Paul Futcher... well, up there with Ian Evans and Macca for me. Best 3 central defenders I've ever seen in my lifetime. Joyce end of career but was amazing in the early 80s. Ivor the Engine Thomas was hilarious, thug life! The Darren Sheridan of the late 80s. Owen Archdeacon and Julie Broddle??? Well **** me, one trip ponies and not very good.

Robbo was sold to Kevin Keegans Newcastle for 500 grand. After doing well for them got a career threatening injury and ended up at Swindon.

This was Currie's first spell. He was sold in January or February to Forest not long after Machin came in. With the proceeds he bought Taggart, Fleming and Saville, which in hindsight was probably good business. Especially as we needed a new centre half after Shotton got sacked for tw@tting John Deehan on the team bus, and McGugan was crocked by then.

Think you're being a little harsh on Archdeacon, great player in my mind!

Is this not the 1990 team photo? Archie was okay but just sent the same ball down the line all the time - a little curler to the corner flag. Was easy to defend against! Scored a fecking beauty against Leicester in the Cup and didn't he score the winner against Sheff Pigday in the Simod cup or whatever it was called?

This is 89-90 I believe. Currie left early in 1990, and came back at the start of 92-93, Machin's last full season in charge. He was nowhere near as good in his second spell, but still provided us with some moments of Brilliance, including an absolute worldy in a monsoon against Birmingham after we'd battered them but Les Sealey had kept everything out, and an outstanding individual display in an otherwise drab match against Southend. Seem to remember a beautiful winner lighting up another otherwise dreadful match against Oxford. Certainly he was far better in his second spell than Ian Banks! Were you at Bramall Lane in the cup when he put the ball over the bar from on the goal line?
