Any tips? Good bars? Bars with live music? Places to eat? Places to avoid like the plague? Heading out there soon with 2 17 yr olds, a 13 yr old and the husband.
All the bars etc are in two centres one near the beach and a smaller one at the top of the mountain...try walking it up, nearly killed me
Lucy Byrnes Shamrock Bar Decent.. Live Music on, good atmosphere when we went. That's in the center at the bottom, not the one all the way up the hill.. Think that's the Europa.
Worst holiday we've had 2 centres all very samey decent water park for the kids that's it I'm afraid 2 weeks is a long time in Gran Canaria
It's all up hill from what I can remember and red hot.... We got a delay so when we arrived the bloke sorting rooms out was having a kip! Got to room and no mattress on the bed so went to see what was going on and had to carry another one up 4 flights of stairs to the apartment in midday sun. Enjoyed rest of it though round the bars in the centre at the bottom.
Nothing wrong with the place , just remember to take a bottle of oxygen with you , a tad hilly ! Enjoy
100% agree with Dalestykes here. We went to Gran Canaria last month and stayed in Puerto Del Mogan for 10 nights (a bit further round the coast from Puerto Rico). We caught the local bus and wanted to spend the day in Puerto Rico but were back in out resort within 2.5 hours. Just thought the place was rundown and tacky, would advise to stay clear!!
Only things I remember about my week in PR was being absolutely hounded by timeshare touts, and being violently sick for two days after an ‘all you can eat’ Chinese buffet at top centre. Magic times.
Deffo go to Puerto Del Mogan, some nice seafood restaurants around the harbour. If you get the timeshare lot giving you scratchcards rip them up, word soon gets around
I remember being hounded by timeshare touts in lanzarote, quite hilarious their overacting when we’d ‘won’ the first prize on their scratchcard lottery, They were highfiving everyone and applauding and a whooping and a hollering, I genuinely applauded them
It ruined our holiday mate. I think the scratchcards phenomenon had just kicked off when we were there. Literally from the minute we stepped out of the hotel, everyday. Was mental.
I stayed up near the Europa centre, it was 20+ years ago and couldn't believe how many used to turn up just as the bus was due. But as I said if you started tearing up the scratchcards they soon left you alone, to the extent that they wouldn't give me one when I asked.
We went to Puerto Del Carmen for Xmas 2 years ago mate, that did my bulb in and it wasn’t the timeshare touts but the bar & restaurant touts trying to get you to eat or drink in their place,, it was just a continuous walk of “no thanks we’ve eaten, honestly we’re fine, seriously we’re ok” that must have been every 20 yards, so bloke even grabbed my arm and try guide me in, that spoilt it for us, we got to the stage where we were dreading the walk,
Yeah... thanks all... just got back. Only went for 3 nights so a long trip for a short time. Stayed near the Europan at the top. Didn' even get down to the main bit of Puerto Rico but did walk down to Amadores Beach and back which is my fitness done for this week. The water park was great, the food was a bit naff, and I'e come home with whiplash ... just not sure if it' from the water park or the turbulence on the plane home. Didn' see one timeshare tour anywhere. I thought that stuff went out in the 80s?
